Test after test has been done that proves that using a cell phone in any way, whether or not you are texting or speaking, whether or not you are holding the phone in your hand or using a handsfree device, while driving produces a loss of concentration. In fact, most studies, equate the effect with the skill level of a drunk driver.

As important as your phone is, remember that every single time you take your eyes off the road for even a second, you increase your chances to have an accident.

You say you're a safe driver? What about everyone else? You need to be watching them so you can react if they do something unexpected, and you can't do that if you're distracted by your phone.

I used to drive for a living - Please take my advice and either turn the phone off while you're in the car (and make it known to people that there is a good reason for it) or pull over to use it.

If you object to the idea of this on the grounds that you have a busy life - Think about how we all somehow managed to cope 30 years ago, back when cell phones were only a distant dream. Yep, there was a time where the concept of being connected 24/7 was unknown, and even then, we managed to function, no matter how busy we were.

Let me propose a way to see just how distracted a cell phone makes you while driving - How many times have you been doing something on your phone and missed a turn or exit, or missed the fact that the light turned green and only moved because the person behind you blew their horn? I bet that number is not zero.

Remember that all it takes is one single moment of inattention to either take a life or leave someone (yourself included) crippled for life. I also speak from experience that being in a power wheelchair is not fun! (I use one daily, for an unrelated reason).

Re: I really hate 6.5's interface...

i'm not trying to start a debate on driving while texting, because that seems to be the hot issue these days, with states making it laws and whatnot. i got pulled over in minnesota for using my cellphone while driving. funny thing is, its legal to talk on the phone, just not "look" at it. kind of a backwards law. anyways, most of my job involves driving. it involves calling clients, and it involves constant communication. how would i manage 30 years ago? honestly, my job wouldn't even exist 30 years ago, because my job relies completely on that constant communication. i'm not saying its dangerous or not dangerous, i'm just stating that my driving record involves accidents where i wasn't moving. people are asking me to text them when i'm on the road, and i have absolutely no record proving i'm any sort of danger to anyone around me. personally, i honestly don't think that texting safely is putting anybody in harms way. you take your eyes off the road to change a song on your ipod, or look at how fast you're going, check your engine temp. i take mine off the road while driving in a straight line with nobody driving next to me to check to see who txt'd me, and then blind type my response, and look it over in about 1.5 seconds and hit send w/out looking. in reality, my mind might be elsewhere, but my eyes are on the road through most of that exchange. these laws aren't there to protect people, they're there to get money.

for example, redlight cameras. while we're on the topic of safety and government. do you find it ironic that stop lights equipped with redlight cameras have at least 50% higher chances of rear end accidents? those are the accidents where low speeds can break necks and cripple people for the rest of their lives. the government found some way to statistically state that it doesn't put anyone in danger, and somehow they twisted pvalues and whatnot to further that argument, and actually convince people that this is a good idea. whatever statistics you are reading, are most likely skewed when money is involved. especially government money.

anyway, i don't really want to argue about this, but this is where i'm coming from. if you don't like it, take it up with your senator. i'll do it as long as its legal, and probably after. i'll just be more cautious, and keep an eye out for the police, which will put the public at a greater risk because i'll be looking in bushes and in underpasses for the police, while texting and driving. i wonder what thats the equivalent to....probably driving drunk on meth while breastfeeding a baby.

What topic? I just needed to add my personal experience with cell phone use and driving. I was involved in 2 accidents in past 3 years, and although i was declared "not at fault" in each incident, im fairly certain they could have been avoided if i hadnt been using my cell.

Re: I really hate 6.5's interface...

the best thing about the start menu is that you can pull your favs to the tops. i would think the avg person uses their fav apps 90 percent of the time so they would always be accessible at the top as they would be in 6.1. just my opinion

True. But in 6.1 you had your favs/recents in the start drop down. Much better IMO

I honestly find the main page worthless. I run it with tf3d and is quite happy.
