exactly my point.
Don't really care about length.
I'm going to text them the same amount reguardless.
But in addition to your reason why somone would care about the length is if they don't have unlimited texting.
But there's no reason to not have unlimited texting!

please do post, I would also be interested in looking into that function also.
From my past experience there is always alot of room to improve microsoft's functions/applications.

can someone retell what to do I trued following the first psot and its a bit confusing as I read all the comments to this point.

Also I am using 6.1 so will using the attached files in the first post amke a difference? and If I uninstall the cabs what happen.

yea, I think posting that htm would be helpful. I stayed up wayy too long last night looking into this on msdn and didn't get around to trying. now I gotta work.

I've attached the htm file that I modified. Just replace the file in \windows\

Of course back it up first in case this is something that's carrier specific. (which I doubt but just in case.)

So far I like the fix, I do miss the character count but the lag drives me nuts!! I'm willing to sacrifice the count for the decreased lag. Good Find!!! I might look into trying to tweak it a lil where it keeps the count but only counts when you stop typing for say 2 seconds or so, then once you stop and it counts the characters used you won't have lag, and you will have a count, sounds genius!!!

would be awesome if it would re-count after you stop typing for 1-2 seconds, as previously mentioned. But still, great find!

Its not really possible without a complete overhaul of the html design.

I did modify it so that it would not display any count, but would still display "(2 Messages)" when you pass 160 characters. However, this still causes the update-after-each-character behavior that creates lag.

I am going with no count and leaving it at that. Thanks for this find.

Thanks for the fix!! I never cared about the character count whatsoever and this along with the SPJ cab completely removed lag from my texting!
