Verizon - Living with the new Stock Rom [6-11-09]
This thread is for those of us who are choosing to run the new Verizon Stock ROM.
I will update this first post with links and procedures discovered to improve the use of the new stock ROM like getting tethering to work.. Read about it: http://www.phonenews.com/verizon-tou...il-added-8089/ What the ROM Offers: The GPS is now unlocked and available to other applications via an updated radio. Quick GPS is also included. Voice Command now works as it should, and it works great. Visual Voice Mail is Cooked into the ROM Support for the EVRC-B codec. Where can we get it?: http://pcdphones.com/phone_downloads...zon%20Wireless I have a version available here that has the pagepool changed to 8 MB's: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/109000...58002_Ship.zip You do not need to re-lock your phone or return it to stock before flashing. You can actually use WinRAR to extract the contents of the .exe file to a folder. It will have all the same stuff in it that you would see when flashing a custom ROM. You can use the PagePool changer program to then up the PagePool from 6 to 8 MB's for snappier performance. I have this already available above.. Stock Vs. Mighty ROM I used SKTools to benchmark the new stock ROM and compared it to Mighty ROM. See that here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...BCPRdmLvbqGUiw The only real performance hit seems to be in reading the SD Card. (Must be a tweak for that) Problem #1 - Tethering [SOLVED] More testing is needed, but the solution found here: http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-o...verizon-omnia/ for the Omnia appears to work. Please note that WMWifiRouter is only needed to share via your wireless card. All you need to install is the ICS cab. You can download that from me here complements of DropBox: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/109000...ICSInstall.CAB Problem #2 - Battery Life After running this ROM for a while now, I have consistently gotten great results with battery life. Seems as good as any ROM I have run. I am going to leave the info below in case anyone is not seeing the same results I am seeing. But I am getting 7:50 AM to 11 PM @ 20-30% remaining with significant use. (There are two possible ways to improve the battery. I found a thread about battery hacks here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=41770 Also, changing to another radio could help.) Problem #3 - Custom task bar Solution Pending I tried one of the TSOWEN installs and totally screwed my phone. I would suggest trying the one-by-one icon replacement method for now. Problem #4 - SD Card Read Performance Solution Pending Problem #5 - Low Volume [SOLVED] I used the louder .cab in Touch Pro Audio Fix.zip from this post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...20&postcount=1 Got this deaf ear a hearing again.... Thanks to that OP... Want to add to the list, then please join the discussion.

Re: Living with the new Stock Rom [6-11-09]
I am choosing to run this ROM primarily for the working Voice Command.
For my job, it is a very valuable time-saving tool. This comes with some obvious sacrifices... No built-in tethering capabilities. Limited customization options.. etc... The first thing I really want to get working is tethering. There is a thread started here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=71218 I have tried this with no success. Anyone else care to give it a shot? Looking at the binary file, it appears to be geared towards sprint phones. I am not sure if installing it has messed anything up, but I tried to install it again and it wants to remove the previous installation. The removal fails. Use at your own risk... I have also found threads that say to install the ICS sharing cab with WMWifiRouter and that will enable it. I did that and it seemed to work until it said that the connection was terminated at the other end. I think Verizon is blocking tethering on this ROM since they now want $40 to use your phone as a modem. EDIT: Solved, see first post. Last edited by CheezWiz; 06-15-2009 at 11:22 AM. |

Does the new ROM force you to use and pay for Visual Voicemail?

Definitely faster than what shipped on my phone. As you can see from the comparison in my first post, only drawback is SD Card performance.

Re: Verizon - Living with the new Stock Rom [6-11-09]
I sure hope so, I hate running a stock ROM... Not sure why, I just do...
Seems to me like the majority of people around here find it useless. I find it invaluable. |
