Re: WARNING Battery Danger

These are lithium polymer batteries. There is NOTHING UNUSUAL about this. Just do youtube search and see the videos of how easy it is for these things to flame up when damaged. People in the Radio Control helicopter / Airplane world are well aware of this. These batteries are very sensitive to heat, shock, bending, etc...

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209187

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...batteries.html

Granted, this is more common in RC stuff because of vibration, but drop a phone lipo, bend it, SIT ON IT, etc. and it can be a ticking bomb....

Should we believe this? Why would I make something up like this? I am not going after Sprint, I am not going after HTC. I simply posted this so that others that might be doing what I did will think twice. I gain nothing out of this. You don't have to believe me. I was just trying to be a good person and post my experience so others may not have to go through it.

You made it all up to get people to think their battery will explode haha. Jk man. Yea, thanks for showing this to us and it seems this has given you internet fame for the last few days! Haha. I must have overlooked, did you say this was an oem batt?

EDIT: NM found it, sorry, it was an OEM.

I beg to differ. Lithium Polymer and Ion are "the same" but the package is different. These small batteries are in the polymer configuration. That is why they balloon when they go bad. They are little foil sandwiches...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer

"A compelling advantage of Li-poly cells is that manufacturers can shape the battery almost however they please, which can be important to mobile phone manufacturers constantly working on smaller, thinner, and lighter phones."

Re: WARNING Battery Danger

Sounds like an ebay battery to me. You dont need much to set them off like that. PSP batts do it all the time, just dont buy cheap ones for that reason.

They actually are HTC batteries. I was able to keep batteries when I got new replacement phones.

Re: WARNING Battery Danger

i used to race rc cars when i was younger, and i mean nitro thousands of dollars rc cars, and i saw this happen all the time. i never really thought about it happening with a cellphone battery though. i always carry a battery in my back pocket, i'm gonna start not doing that i guess lol... i'll just leave it in my car, surrounded by tissue paper (i have an audi, and its starting to break little expensive things lol).
