Re: back up software

I will chime in as well. In my experience, using a TP, SPB was a pain in the rear. In the time it took me to fix what it messed up, I could have done it the old-school way and re-install everything manually. On the other hand, I decided to purchase Sprite Backup. Now let me tell you, I backup/restore many many times a week because I'm always trying out new ROMs. I haven't had a SINGLE problem with it. I love it. If you're gonna flash/restore as often as I do, or AT ALL for that matter, I would check out Sprite Backup. I don't know how I've lived without it. In the end, your mileage may vary. =)

Re: back up software

Question about backup restoration:

Yesterday I flashed my ROM for the second time ever. I had backed up using SPB. I restored using SPB's 'new ROM' option, and it made the new ROM fail. I would get the splash screen of the old ROM, and then an essentially frozen screen.

Basically the ONLY thing I want to back up are my email settings. Accounts, signatures, that's it. It'd be nice if the backup returned the 3rd party apps I have installed (and authorized them); SPB installed them but they're unauthorized now.

Is there a way to back up email account settings just within the OS, without using backup software at all? Thanks.

Same here. If you search my old posts (I'm to busy to do it), you will find where I did a TON of testing of all the different BU systems really TRYING to make them fail. When I had my Titan/Mogul systems, I thought SPB was awesome but I started this extensive testing because it was not restoring correctly in my TP's.

I used one of my three TP's & flashed/hard rest etc continuously & kept restoring different BU files to see how well all the different systems worked. I did things like restoring a BU from one phone to a completely different phone running a different ROM. I was able to get that exact scenario working perfectly a bunch of times with Sprite (using restore level one). That will NEVER work correctly with SPB.

I bet by the time I was done I had probably done close to 100 restores & I was completely sold on Sprite by that time. One thing I found was, if the BU file is relatively small SPB seems to work OK. Once it gets larger (I have a BU file I use for testing that is over 200 megs), SPB fails rather consistently doing restores.

As far as speed, I could care less how long it takes as long as I know I can count on it.

Re: back up software

email account settings and owner info can be backup up with sashimi. There is a thread on the TP forum about it too. I believe the owner info is here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Owner

The email needs to be done by xml I think (Sashimi has an xml editor with it called Makisu).

For you Sprite lovers, I just tried it a few days ago. Is there a way to do a customized, scheduled backup? When I scheduled it, I could only get it to do a full backup. I hard reset about once a week or two and I only want to backup 10% of the files. I'd rather delete the rest.
