Re: From Verizon Touch Pro to Sprint version... is it really that much better?
what a fun thread to find...
I didn't actually read all of these posts but I wanted to contribute my worthless experiences on the matter. I started out with a verizon phone and was clearly unhappy for the main reason of the RAM... so I sold it and bought an alltel one which had more RAM and looked a lot better... so I used the alltel one for about 4 months before it got wet and I had to file an ASURION claim... being insured under a verizon line, they gave me a verizon TP back. At first, I was really upset to have the verizon phone again but, after riding with the "ungimped" tp for a while and now going back to the verizon one, I can honestly say it doesn't bother me too much. There are some things about the alltel one that made it kind of a pain and it sounds like the sprint suffers the same problems. For anyone who has read my previous thread about this whining and complaining about the verizon tp, you will be surprised to hear my comments which favor the verizon tp over others: pro for verizon: 1) CASE -- super glossy hard finish, just feels more solid -- more durable battery cover (alltel was rubber CRAP and squeaky) 2) SCREEN -- MUCH more responsive -- EDGES work, this was #1 PITA of alltel phone. Verizon works 100%. -- brighter (thought it looked washed out but like it now) 3) KEYBOARD -- BIGGER more responsive keys -- BRIGHTER backlight con: 1) kinda ugly -- still sexy with tweaked TF3D tho 2) less RAM -- not so terrible if u can deal with phone canvas off. I hardly ever went below 100mb on Alltel and usually if it went below that a restart was needed anyways. 3) less keys -- haven't noticed the need for the extra ones. 4) M key -- HAHA... sucks but I'm used to it... Anyways, I thought I was going to sell this vzw phone and get another alltel one but I think I'm happy until wm7 phones come out... plus ASURION will give me 1 yr warranty on this so I'm good until next year assuming it doesn't get wet again lol. OH BTW, tried having Alltel do warranty replacement or ANYTHING to your phone when not in their db? Guess again, consider your rogue sprint/alltel tp on Verizon as a one shot deal... granted, ASURION did still give me a replacement after a deductable.. but not the alltel one, had to get verizon. :P

Re: From Verizon Touch Pro to Sprint version... is it really that much better?
After using the VZ TP more & more at work, I have decided all the people criticizing the VZ version performance have either never actually used one or are just totally FOS.
I do love my Sprint TP's & i think the VZ version is ugly (although I also hate the tacky chrome on the Sprint version & had to use a black Seidio cover to hide it), but the performance of the VZ & Sprint TP's is virtually identical in side by side tests. ~John |

So...if you have approximately 180mb free to start and after all your programs load/memory leaks, you have to reboot if you get to 100mb free, I THINK that puts it right on par with Verizon. My Verizon TP has 100mb free. When I get below 20mb free, or 80mb used (this would be the same difference that was mentioned above, 180 - 80 used means reboot at 100mb) it almost matches identically what you are reporting. We are both seeing phone freeze at around 80mb of memory used. I'm sure there's some give and take there. That has been my contention and why I like this thread and where it was going. It isn't going to matter how much RAM you have if after you use approximately 80mb of it the phone screeches to a hault! That being said, IF the memory issue could be confirmed by more then 1 person, I think that completely solidifies what this thread has pointed out so well! The other thing to keep in mind is perception. Some people just don't have a realistic perception of how WinMo operates. On no phone will WinMo ever be blindingly fast all the time, it all depends on the applications you use, whether or not you leave them all open all the time, etc. So you have to take everything with a grain of salt. You might see someone orgasming about how fast it is but that could be because they came from an old WinMo phone that was a lot slower. What you perceive as slow may in fact be the same speed they are talking about. Sift for the real data, analyze how people are using their phones, etc. Don't just go on unfounded opinions with lots of capital letters.

Re: From Verizon Touch Pro to Sprint version... is it really that much better?
I have no problem believing the Sprint phone is faster overall in general, what I take issue with is the perception that it's faster by an extreme amount. Someone may come and read all the crap and just soak it up, then switch from a carrier they've had no issue with or buy a non-verizon phone that won't have a warranty, all based on information founded on nothing but extremism. When the truth is they'd likely have no issue whatsoever with it. Speaking of all users in general.

He loves his phone & there is no reason why he shouldn't. I fail to see much if any advantage the Sprint phone gives aside from the fact that I think the VZ version is ugly (& not everybody agrees with that) I actually prefer the VZ hardware KB & its bigger buttons (although I use TouchPal 99% of the time so the hardware KB doesn't really matter to me) ~John |

I can agree with practically everything said in this thread. Yes, the out-of-the-box locked GPS is stupid and pointless (but at least it's being fixed in MR1) and yes, the extra RAM can't hurt, but overall, I feel the VZW TP is a much better built device compared to the Sprint TP.
I carried both phones simultaneously for approximately two weeks, and while I can say that I truly liked the design and aesthetics of the Sprint phone more, I was reaching for the VZW phone when it came to making a voice call. As said earlier in this thread, the earpiece of the Sprint TP is just flat-out poor. The VZW TP can literally be painful it's so loud. I find it amusing the hardcore Sprint fanboys are bashing VZNavigator and other stock ROM applications when A.) Sprint dumps plenty of carrier-branded junk on their phone and B.) Nearly everyone on this forum is going to end up doing a custom ROM anyway. What do you possibly have to gripe about? When it comes to the screen sensitivity, I can definitely vouch for the VZW one being overall much more responsive. The Sprint screen didn't look bad or anything, it just didn't perform as well as the VZW one (which is much more than I can say for the Sprint Vogue vs. VZW Vogue... the Sprint LCD was absolutely terrible and and utter embarassment when placed side by side with the VZW model) The M key is not a big deal, I was used to it in about two days. Here's a totally off the wall thought: from what I'm hearing, VZW's Touch Diamond is supposed to have a faceted back... I wonder if that'll fit on the Touch Pro! Man that would be rad (and quite possibly the first thing VZW has ever done right for an HTC phone's aesthetics!
