Hi, I also had the same problem, but on the HTC HD2. Not sure if it's the same keyboard, but on mine, when you press the symbol button (labelled "12#" on HD2), there are two pages of symbols, and to get to the second page you have to press the 1/2 button on the left. That's where my backslash key is.
