Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

Ive noticed that using the stylus or my finger tip usually selects text, where as using the pad of my finger will cause it to scroll. Not sure if thats normal or becuase of the tweak the TF3D config tool added tho. But i can reproduce it every time.

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

First off, TouchFlo is an improvement. Maybe not monumental but an improvement nevertheless. I agree that I could take it or leave it. Like someone else posted, I sometimes disable it depending on my mood. Truthfully, it IS eye candy but then again so is the Touch Pro built with a nice VGA glossy screen with a chrome lining. I think HTC simply attempted to right a wrong from Microsoft and they deserve much applause for that. I believe if they made all the improvements you feel should be made jazee then it would still fall short in some area for someone. I do respect your opinion and for those who feel this thread is a rant, just ignore it and don't post. I understand where you come from jazee and I agree with you as well as the others. My motto.... IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

It's hard to faulth HTC for trying to create a snazzy interface to compete with (not be like) the iPhone.... after all, apple has sold MILLIONS of the junk devices. Although I agree that TF3D is sorely lacking, for the majority of users who just want a 'cool phone' it's great. I personally use Ultimate Launch on my TP and I have created an interface as good looking with way more functionality.

Wish i could break out the TF3D-today photo dialer and album viewer though. Oh and btw, i have about 40 MB more free ram with UL (though that hardly matters anymore). The TP is still the most powerful PPC in town, so its' options are limitless right now.

*edit* Sidenote for jazee: HTC couldn't integrate TF3D better into WM because unfortunately, its not their code. They pay licensing fees to microsoft for that, and unless they want to write their own original code, they are stuck with the 'dressing'.

What it seems to be is that you deliberately signed up made a ppc geeks account to deliberately rant about features you like and don't like, and it also sounds like you may have a little buyers remorse, If you aren't completely happy return the device, and be patient for a new device that better suits your needs, there are plenty of reviews on the Touch Pro variants, enough so, that you should of had a more than educated guess on its performance

1) I never said I wasn't happy with the device - you are jumping to conclusions that I did not post. I merely said I was unsure about the usefulness of TF3D and gave specific examples why and being a new TF3D user wanted the opinions of other TF3D users that have more experience with it. I was wondering if there were some features I had missed, especially regarding customization or if maybe I totally misunderstood the whole point to it. To the contrary I posted I was a happy user of the device overall.

2) I'm not sure what you are trying to infer by using words like 'deliberately' ??? Deliberately trying to do what? If you are a new user of something, device, software, and you want to discuss it with other users, is not the logical thing to do, find a user group/discussion forum with lots of users of the same device and take part in the discussion - which we all know DOES involve having to register, deliberately. You seem to have a prejudice towards me because I'm a new user.

I'll respond to any further posts you have about the topic of this thread - the usefulness (the point of) the TF3D shell. But if all you are going to do is put up posts that are primarily intended to just criticize people and infer they have some ulterior motivation other than trying to have a legitimate discussion and get feedback from others, I find that not constructive to the discussion and a waste of all of our time.

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

While i see both sides to the argument on TF3D, its usefulness and usability, its drawbacks and shortcomings, more so, after months of testing, modifying, and all together disabling it, to formulate an opinion on it, I have to say it's better than them never have developing it.

The underlying truth, is that we have options, and more so we have opinions. Sure your alarm clock might not show up on Tf3D or something easy to fix like that (mine does) and maybe you don't like having to get a 2nd today to manage your life, That's just the way things are.

Finding people that share your same opinions might make you feel better, but really who is this about in the end?

I agree with you from the perspective you take on the entire phone - better to have it than not have it at all. That is sort of the strength of this platform, it is sort of two phones in one. I think you made a good point as others have. TF3D offers a more touch-centric, simplified interface for those that prefer it. For WM Power Users that must have all their special 3rd party apps, they can toggle or just turn TF3D off.

But the point of this thread was to discuss the merits of TF3D as an adequate replacement to the traditional WM interface, not to discuss if the phone overall was good or not.

And the purpose of me starting the thread was not to just see if others would validate my initial observations, but to see if anyone could provide additional information that would actually CHANGE my initial opinion on TF3D. This discussion isn't about a person, it's about a feature in an operating system. Granted its value differs depending on how the phone is used, but some general conclusions can be made.

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

i hear what ur saying but any one would read ur first post and take it as a long winded attack on HTC and its not like u had to pay for TF3D its extra included free i mean for that much u could have started a thread talkin about how we should have got bigger memory cards u cleaned it up in the end but came off sounding really ungrateful all HTC did was try to make our live easier they didn't have to do anything

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

I would have to agree. Altho your later posts proved this wrong your first post almost sounded like an apple fanboy that for some reason wanted to try this phone but then didnt like it. I almost felt like it was an attack on a piece of technology that i have personally come to love...

In the end, I love TF3D for my main interface and use mToday to change profiles for whatever else i need to to.

Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?

And please excuse my sensitivity to iPhone lovers and comparisons... I work in a best buy and am one of like 3 WinMo users and everybody else is an iPhone user. And they're always like "hey, look what my iPhone does!" and ill be like "wow, thats awesome. My phone does that too. Woohoo."
