I don't think it's unethical. I'm just calling him out for whining about people taking advantage of a $100 rebate when he is taking advantage of Sprint with the SERO plan. What is the saying? The pot calling the kettle black? I would've jumped on the SERO plan if I was following these types of message boards. But I was not aware of it and missed the boat. |

maybe we should just temporarily stop posting in this thread until we receive results of the rebates because this is going way personal...

Re: Touch Pro from Best Buy with $100 Sprint Rebate
I think the major statement that needs to be made here is if you submit it and get it great if not, you cant whine. Technically the rebate is applied in the Best Buy price, hence why they can sell it for $199 with a contract and Sprint has no obligation to approve the rebate. If you dont get the rebate oh well you still got it cheaper than a sprint store/sprint.com
Right on the bottom of the rebate "This offer is only available to customers purchasing via Sprint.com, Sprint Telesales and Sprint Customer Service. May not be combinable with other offers." They know 3rd party stores like Radioshack and BB give instant rebate deals so they dont have to deal with mail-ins, which is why sprint direct does offer the mail-ins only purchased direct from them. its just their thing but you cant expect to double dip the system and them not block you. But, I agree, if I don't get the $100 rebate, I won't whine because I agree that it seems like this double-dipping the system. It will still suck b/c other people received it, but just like SERO, I'll live with it. I'm fine with my plan and happy with $200 for the phone. I sent my rebate 2 weeks ago. I received an e-mail today that Sprint received the rebate. It is currently pending approval (58% complete). |

Re: Touch Pro from Best Buy with $100 Sprint Rebate
it is not on my rebate form either. same deal as addicted, i fulfill the requirements here as well.
i too will be fine and dandy if the rebate doesn't go through but i wish sprint was consistent with their policies and fine print. there seems to be TONS of loopholes or lack of required legal verbatim and they then pull a manager's decision on you over the phone when you were lead to believe you qualify for something. |

I do think you are right, though that getting on SERO ellicitly is on par with trying to get an additional $100 from Sprint. Look, it's Sprint's fault, no doubt, for making it so easy to sign up for SERO without really being a friend or family of an employee. Part of me wonders if they did this intentionally to attract more customers, but who knows! Still, it doesn't make it ethically right. Aside from the ethics, the financial part of this boils down to the fact that by trying to pay as little as possible for both phone and service, we aren't helping Sprint, and could see as a result that Sprint will just go away. It may well go away anyway and largely due to its own mismanagement, but that doesn't mean that we should hasten it. I'm not condemning people for trying to do this, simply pointing out the ethics and if people are ok with it, that's on them. Last edited by dvdmon; 01-12-2009 at 10:33 PM. |

Re: Touch Pro from Best Buy with $100 Sprint Rebate
If companies do not want people getting insanely great deals that may or may not affect their bottom line in a negative way, they should not create a system where people can get these deals. No laws and no fine print guidelines were breached at all by my obtaining SERO (which I did legit), obtaining the TP at the Best Buy price, getting the mail-in rebate and selling my old phone back for a final price of $124 on the phone.
Sprint could have cracked down on me and many other people. It was their responsibility to do so if it is a bad business decision for them. Know why they didn't? Because they've ensured the loyalty of many more customers by allowing these great bargains. And when your reputation and customer base has gone into the ditch as fast as Sprint's has, you NEED loyal customers not to leave before you can hopefully build your base up again, which Sprint should hopefully start doing this year. Over the lifetime of my Sprint contracts every dollar they saved me will be reinvested and then some back into their business by what I pay each month. It's no different than the evil AT&T and their subsidizing the "Jesus phone," except Sprint are better because they don't then turn around and rape the customer with $150/month plans. Sprint was not asleep at the wheel when they granted these discounts. They've made smart customers happy and loyal, and at least until they get the market share back (if they ever do) they are business-wise to treat us as well as they have! Re: Touch Pro from Best Buy with $100 Sprint Rebate
My rebate was denied because this offer required: "Your new Sprint Phone to be purchased at a qualifying store location."
I called the number on the post card 1-800-477-4127 and inquired about the rebate status and the rep told me it was denied for the reason above. He asked where I purchased the phone and I confirmed that it was Best Buy. He told me to hold while he researched and he came back and said Best Buy is a qualifying store and he will be issuing an expedited refund. SWEET!!! |
