Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
Yeah john I've done the same as you and the answer I get is "It's a issue with the network itself. Not your phone."

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
I'm thinkin about going back into the store and talking to them again to see if they are making any progress with it. The guy did say its a known issue and they are working on it.

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
By the way, one day when I was bored at work I got a tier 2 vz tech on the phone & we talked for almost 2 hours.
He kept saying "there's GOT to be a fix for this!!". I was hoping he was right (but pretty sure he was wrong), but in the end we both gave up on it. The guy was a GREAT guy & he gave me his private # & asked me if I ever found a fix for it to call him personally & tell him what it was. ~John |

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
I have to agree with you that they were great on trying to fix my problem. But like you said in the end we gave up...I hope there is a fix for this in the near future.

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
Agreed. It is pretty annoying that two $19 flip phones can send each other 900 character texts with no problem, but make just one a $600 PPC & NOW we have a problem........

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
Then what is the problem? The original post is asking why 1K char texts can't be sent when 1K char texts are not possible under the SMS specification. Maybe the original post isn't aware of the various specs and is just throwing terms around loosly? If so, I can't be a mind reader, but it sounds like that's the issue to me.

Re: VZW Text Message Size Limits?
So.. I started another thread similar to this, but I'm going to jump in on this one too. I've got Alltel and a Touch Pro. My girlfriend, on Alltel too, can't send me multi-part SMS. She will get back a message saying my phone doesn't support EMS, and I get the message saying that the preceding message was modifiedd, and media content was stripped. However, when someone from another carrier sends me a long message all the parts come through fine.
So I've come to the conclusion this is a mix of a change on the messaging center for the carriers (seems only the CDMA carriers are having trouble with it) and something in WinMo itself, and something recent too, as I have only found reports of it happening on 6/6.1. It may be we need to create a registry key for it; looking at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Inbox/SVC/SMS/MsgClasses it has entries for Flix, Pix, and SMS. I know didly about what each entry does, or if it has anything to do with it, but hey, ya never know. Could you guys from Verizon and Sprint check and see what entries you have listed? I really love this phone and all it can do, but having SMS conversations with longer than 160 characters is pretty much a needed thing. If we could find a fix for this it would be awesome; Alltel has apparently taken the stance of not being able/willing to do anything about fixing it. |
