That's a matter of opinion. I actually agree with you that the Pro is a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade to the Apache or even the Mogul in terms of speed, usability and overall potential. However, he did not state what he would like to use the phone for. What if it's just to check e-mail or review documents? What kind of web sites does he intend on viewing? You and I are probably heavy users, but we don't know about him. The upgrade for him may not be worth it if he's not going to use the Pro to its fullest potential.

Re: is upgrading really worth it?

Hey I just got the touch pro and had my Apache for all this time as well.

I think edufur was misunderstood.
His question dealt with the sluggishness, not if the device is better or not.

Using manila2d cooked into apache rom, it was quik.

On the touch Pro,the delay on the stock sprint phone is due to sprint's version manila3d, from what I read at xdev site, and some custom roms omit certain transition grafics to eliminate delays totally.

I'm shure with a cooked rom as "electronicrice" suggests would make all the difference.

Re: is upgrading really worth it?

Well it looks like there are at least a few people who understand what I was getting at.

I guess what I am saying is that when I go from Apache 20755 build to the Touch Pro stock build, screen scrolling should be faster, not slower. load times should be faster, not slower. I did a lot of cooking with the apache and had a pretty solid zippy device at the 20755 build (using BuildOS). But I don't even want to risk warranty voiding / bricking the pro device if 1. the speed gain isn't better than 20% over stock, and 2. new bugs get introduced.

Re: is upgrading really worth it?

i dont see why people are saying baffles was contradicting himself... i think he was just saying that if edufur was actually contemplating returning such a great device for an older device with less specs, then obviously he might as well return it cause he's not getting out of it what most of us are.... (because for MOST of us, the tp is so much better than our older phones and we wouldn't even think about it). that's why he also said u couldn't pay him to go back to a titan or apache.

anyway, i feel the same as baffles... if ur actually thinking of returning it for ur old phone, then it's probably a good idea for YOU. maybe the next great thing will do the trick for u... i just can't see how the apache or mogul can even compare... the tp has so much more to offer. i'd take a tp with stock rom over my old mogul with custom rom any day. im sure upgrading the tp would make it even better, but i dunno if it would satisfy u.
but i hope u figure it out.

Re: is upgrading really worth it?

I understood Baffles' point perfectly. I upgraded from 6700 to the Pro, and find that it kicks the crap out of the Apache in EVERY possible way, even before I did any tweaks. So if he's actually saying he's debating going back to a 6700 based on the capabilities and performance of the Pro, basic honesty and objectivity is called into question.

If it was a question of money, for example, that's one thing. No one can argue that. But to say that the Pro is somehow inferior to a 6700 from a capabilities and performance standpoint is utter garbage, and someone who would claim that should really just GTFO.
