OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
 

Ok so i was IMing today and up until this afternoon my keyboard was working fine, then all of the sudden it decides to stop work
ng. It would just stop working and then work and then decide to stop again, its getting really annoying, what should i do? Call Asurion? It sucks that all the phones are sold out right now and also my D-pad zoom also stopped working (sometimes) in opera.](*,)

I'm assuming you've already tried a soft reset.
If that's a no-go, try a hard reset.

Before going through the hassle of getting a replacement, try a hard reset. Do you know how to backup your contacts and appointments?

Ok then i will go ahead and try a hard reset later on. (using the phone to type this) and yes i have my contacts backed up. I have PIM on the job.

another thing to consider is "if" you have a cooked rom loaded, if so might want to go back to stock and see if the problem is being cause by the cooked rom.

Ok so i did a hard reset lastnight and still the keyboard is not working, but the device is moving a lil bit faster, anyway should i try to get a replacement now? This so annoying. HELP!!!!!

If you are still within the 30 days then take that thing back and get a new one. Hopefully, they have them in stock where you live.

No im out of my 30 days, and i live in New York, last time i replaced this thing it took like 2 weeks before i got a new one.](*,)

Look here, I had the same issue. We're not the only ones with the problem, your carrier should replace it.

I don't understand this "30 days" thing. I've had old phones with Sprint that went south for some reason far past 1 month of ownership and Sprint replaced them with no TEP, no questions asked. Is there something we should know?

(I have TEP and my phone is fine, I just want to be informed. I also have warranty extension through my credit card but don't want to go there if not necessary.)

Eh, it'd be better to go into a store. For me, the stores have been much kinder because otherwise they would have to say no to your face.

Ok well i decideed to give them a call and see what happenes.
The CSR says he cant go through the troubleshoot because im using the phone, so i asked him what the steps are, i then told him i did all of that already including a hardreset.
He still insisted on me taking it to the store and have them take a look at it, if they dont get it to work they will overnight me a new one.

Just call back tomorrow morning some time, say the store couldn't do anything, you spoke to so and so yesterday and he said one could be overnighted... :P

I'd say go to the store but the experience really varies depending on the kind of day the reps in there are having at the time. If it's anything like this area, they are likely to not have any in stock anyway... I know they're backordered through telesales, but since I got mine replaced with no questions I'm assuming they're starting to hear about this problem more and more often.

This is getting scary. One guy has a keyboard go bad, bad luck, he mashes the keys too hard, something. Two people have the problem and you start to wonder. Along with other problems with the hardware, you have to wonder how sound it is, quality wise, for long term use.

EDIT: I mean, I personally have a 50% failure rate with the phone. The first phone had a much worse battery than even the phone I currently have. Data wouldn't work on it. And it was terribly slow. My new phone is much better, even if the battery life isn't incredible. I just wonder what's coming down the road for us when you read things like this. Reminds me of being an XBox 360 owner and the RROD.

Well i know exactly when a few stores in my area gets shipments so i will call to make sure. And yea it does make you wonder, this device is supposed to be 'workhorse'.....

I had a huge list of problems with my old Helio Ocean... I mean, it was ahead of its time when it was brand new almost four years ago, and it's -STILL- Helio's best device, just gross. After coming from that phone, Winmo seems EXTREMELY fast, no matter how bogged down the phone gets, I had to have a huge amount of patience to use the Ocean... I love it, apart from it being a slow, laggy, buggy, Korean piece of junk with a crap battery. My TP gets better battery life than the Ocean did.

My first TP had a bad earpiece. Best Buy exchanged it because I took it back in less than a week. I have never dropped this phone, have been very gentle with it, and I've found myself using the software keyboard to type texts and stuff more often, in my case, it's just been bad luck. I'm going to take some pictures of this one that is going back once my new TP gets here, just to show it's just a defective keyboard. The camera cover doesn't even have any scratches on it yet... I've been careful.

I guess we will find out. I have awful luck, if something can go wrong for me, it always does :D

I took the phone into a sprint store the rep said he cant fix it, but also states that they cant replace it. I called sprint and they are basically saying 'ohh well' that i have to go through Asurion, WTF its not my fault the keyboard stopped working i never dropped the phone or anything. Never had water damage. I really dont want to pay $50 for a refurbrished phone. PHUKK!!!!

Rockstar, thats BS. You should not have to make an asurion claim, ESPECIALLY considering you have TEP and you're under the 1yr manufacturers warranty. Get out your box and find the warranty sheet. Make sure your issue falls under that and take it into Sprint.

Hey is this 12mths warrenty for Sprint or HTC? For a fact it does cover "keypads".

From HTC. But Sprint should honor it anyway.

So i called Sprint tninking i'd have a better chance on the phone than in store. They said they dont have a "means" by which they can replace the phone, if i wanted a replacement i have to call Asurion. But seriously i dont want to pay $50, to replace something i didnt break. What do i do now?
IDK how anyone can get accustomed to using the onscreen KB.

They should not direct you to Asurion if they don't have a phone. If they do, make them waive your deductible.

There is 2 parts to Sprint insurance. Repair damages, and replace lost or stolen...

This would be a repair, except they cannot repair this type of phone in store... Got to http://storelocator.sprint.com/sl2/default.aspx click the find repair center button and put in your zip... They will see the non working keyboard, and order you a new (maybe refurb) phone with no charge...

I gotta say, this is very disturbing to read. These phones are not old enough to break like this, and have a 50 dollar fee attached to them. Sprint needs to show some kind of customer support. If this happened to me, I'd be on the phone with a different rep every 15 minutes until I got one with an IQ higher than the room temperature.

It really isn't that hard to take care of if you need to. If you have the insurence all you have to do is follow the post above yours. No $50 for a replacement phone...

I've been through this, when I got a phone with a messed up screen. Don't claim asurion, you're limited as to how many claims you can make in a year, so why waste them on a non-Asurion issue?

My first replacement was ordered by my Sprint Store. The second time they told me to go back there and I said it was 50 miles away and asked them to do an advanced exchange, and they did it. That is the technical term for it, "Advanced exchange." So call sprint up and ask them to do it. They send you a replacement phone with a prepaid return envelope, you activate new phone and set it up and throw old phone in envelope and return.

Same thing happened to me. Hard reset didn't work and I had to have the thing replaced. Now I can only hear calls on the 'new' one when it is on speakerphone. Funny thing is that there were still text messages and photos from someone else on the phone. One of the texts said, "I'll have to call you back, I'm having problems with this phone."!!!!
