Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I'd like to add that I had my keyboard pretty much die as well. Sprint swapped out my phone thanks to TEP though, so I'm quite thankful for that.
|
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Same here. I'm on my 2nd TP, because my keyboard died as well. TEP replaced a week later with no deductible. It was just defective equipment.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
+1 broken keyboard ( broke 2 weeks ago, initially got phone on release date )
+1 free new phone replacement after 1 hour diagnostic at sprint repair facility ( San Diego) |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
My keyboard starting failing on Wednesday. My replacement should be here monday or tuesday. I didn't have to worry about "proving" that it didn't work anymore.... thank god for having a friend that works at a Sprint store.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I had this issue with my first TP. Replacing/Exchanging did the trick. I had to pay my Asurion deductible($50), though. =/

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Just had my keyboard fail on me today. Sucks to becuase I've had the phone since December and thought I lucked into getting a relatively decent one. I've got to let the battery charge a bit so I can flash to stock and relock. I thought at first it was because I had literally just flashed the 5/7 release of MightROM 5. I've soft reset, hard reset, reflashed via PC and SD, and even reflashed the 4/25 MR5 release. Tried this stuff multiple times without any of it making any difference.
It's funny because after all the problems I had with my Mogul I was really enjoying the TP. I guess I jinxed myself becaues I always joked with a coworker that if this one went tits up I was going to do what he did and switch to a Palm product. He went from a 6700 with problems to a Mogul with problems and is finally happy with his 800W. Maybe while I'm there I'll take a look at the 800W or Treo Pro. I think I'd only miss the screen size. I don't use anything with the gsensor other than playing around, would still have a hard keyboard, and I guess should be fine with one. We'll see. Will update on what ends up happening. |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Well, went to the local corporate store. Guy there said because I'm out of the 30 days he can't do anything, but because I'm in the 1 year I can take it to the service center. So off to the service center I went. Told them about the keyboard and girl behind the counter said she'd take a look at it. After a little small talk, them oogling over my Bestskinsever.com full body protector, a little harmless flirting, she came out and said that she didn't have the parts to fix it because it was a newer phone, but that she ordered a new, not refurb, replacement for free.
|
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
This just happened to me, I hard reset and everything, keyboard still wouldn't work anymore, my Sprint store could not replace the keyboard, they had to order another TP, I strongly insisted they make sure that they are sent a brand new one, and no refurb, after all the turmoil I've been through with refurbs before. They did, a brand new one is on the way (for free, no deductible, thank God, after all, it's a defect, not user mess-up).
This is still really unfortunate, I know some Sprint stores actually have the parts and training to open TP's and replace the keyboards rather than get another few hundred dollar phone. Now I also had to order another invisible shield full body skin (arrrg!)...I really wanted this bad boy to stay strong with me till I can upgrade to a Tegra based device (TP3 maybe???)...hopefully this replacement will be perfect... |

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
There's an easy fix for the keyboard issue. The ribbon cable connector gets loose. The connector is just under the space bar. To fix it simply press the space bar VERY hard, almost to point it where feels like you might break it. My keyboard was completely dead. Works perfectly now.

I took mine into the Sprint Store and they fixed it in 20 minutes by replacing the keyboard, so no need to pay $50 for the insurance. You should use BODYGUARDZ because they give you 2 in the box and life time replacements for $5 each. |

Yep this worked like a charm. I had to take off the back cover and battery, and yes, pinched the crap out of the keyboard panel, and huzzah! it works now! W00t Thanks! |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
ive had mine replaced TWICE for this issue... it's a *****.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Just had my keyboard replaced yesterday at the Sprint store. The repair tech said he had spent several hours on the phone the day before with a HTC rep about how many keyboard failures they were beginning to see and the HTC rep told him they were aware of the issue and were modifying the way the connectors were attached on the circuit board on Touch Pros currently being made.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
i've had good success by unplugging the keyboard connector.. cleaning with isopropyl or electonic contact cleaner, recoonnecting the keyboard plug. and taping in place. Has anyone ever noticed how any other htc devices have foil tape on the ribbon to secure it to the mainboard..(i've had every previous model line of the touch pro .. 6700, mogul apart before for repairs) yet the tp has nothing?
It would be interesting to see if there are any that exist with the foil tape.. possibly newer versions. mine was made early in 09 . With the amount of shock (even just the slider opening and closing, would be enough shock to possibly loosen the connector). i've also had a theory of pocket humidity furthur wreaking havoc on the keyboard connection, but its just a hunch. because my device began acting up after a hot day of being in my humid pocket. After cleaning the connnector terminals and taping it down, I've yet to have the problem. If you have warranty then return and get a new or refurb phone. But if your like me (no coverage) totally worth a shot as i've had great successs doing this. |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I have never heard of this problem before.
hmmmmm......:) |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Chiming in to say I've had the same problem twice. Once with a brand-new one two weeks after I got it direct from the Sprint store, and once with the refurb I just got last week.
This is pretty obnoxious. I miss my Apache sometimes. Despite being large and clumsy, that thing was a built like a tank. e: I just tried the spacebar mashing method that was mentioned above and it solved my problem. Sprint has already ordered me a new phone however. |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I am having this same problem with my wife's and my touch pro. tried the spacebar solution with no success. Time for another one.
When will they start replacing these with the Touch Pro 2? I know they are not out yet, but maybe I could just wait another week or 2.... |

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I've gotten 2 new ones for the same issues so far..

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I have had the same issue but unfortunately i have my flashed to metropcs so i couldn't claim sprint insurance. I have been using the pinch method to fix it. The pinch method works take off the battery and press the space bar on the left side really hard and push up from the battery compartment.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
i have done the space bar trick and it works for a few hours. i called assurion today and they gave me a newfix to ty. said to try it fo 24-48hrs and see how it goes. well i'm on 12 hrs and not one issue with the keyboard yet. i'm typing this from it right now.
all you have to do is pull battery then hold down on the power button for about 30 seconds, replace battery and start it up. thats it. like i said so far so good. its worth a try. they gave me a different number to call if the keyboard fails again they will send me out a new phone. |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
common prob on the touch pro. mine did the same.. most came with a 1 year warrenty. the phone has to be active and the shop has to be a warrenty repair shop. but I just had mine replaced for free. I wasnt even to original purchaser, and the phone on a whole nother account. check it out. its the easiest way.. other than physically taking apart the phone and replacing the ribbon to the key board. and that not even garenteed
|
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I had the same thing happen with my Sprint Touch Pro... They swapped the keyboard free with the insurance... Took 1 hour.
|
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
Well going on 24hrs and not 1 hitch with the fix assurion gave me. Incase you didnt see my post. All you do is pull the battery and hold power button down for 30seconds, replace battery and start phone. The keyboard has worked flawless ever since.

Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I was having same problem..it's a design flaw. I opened mine up yesterday and fix it(!), finally, after using the on-screen keyboard for a month.
Here's your fix... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=62876 (the bit about pressing down space key really hard worked for me once...then didn't work anymore. Once you open it up you'll see the design flaws...easy to fix) |
Re: OMG!! My keyboard stopped working!!!
I have a new and interesting KB failure. My keys have gone completely crazy, the "L" key is being pressed by itself forever. The backspace generates "=" and the "Enter" key is stuck down so that you are unable to push on it at all, it's sunk into the keyboard.
