I second the motion that if you are inside the 12 month MANUFACTURERS warranty, Sprint HAS to honor it, and will. I have had a few phones replaced this way, including Instincts in the last... WEEK :)

My keyboard works for a little bit then doesn't work. My pad on the front works and doesn't work. It seems to work for a little bit then it stops. I don't think I've had a touch pro that the keyboard worked. This will be the second phone in a bout a week and half for the same problem.

if your phone is anything like mine, the keyboard will be completely dead in another week... sorry. i'm currently trying to find a way to get a new one

are you referring to a phone that is backed by the sprint insurance plan for $7/month? or just a regular, non-insured phone

I refuse to pay for insurance that costs half the phones price to replace something that is usually a defect from the manufacturer. So yes, a regular phone. I not prone to dropping my phones, either on the ground or in the toilet like some people, so i feel i dont need insurance lol.

I had a Sanyo 8100, 2- Samsung M610 (great phone too!) and 2 Instincts replaced no questions asked. Of course it helps that i have a friend who works there, but then he knows what employees of Sprint can and cannot do.

I just had my keyboard stop working last week. It got really laggy for a few days and then stopped all together. The Sprint rep in the store said she hadn't heard of this before - not like they would admit it anyway. They did a replacement for me since I just had the phone replaced less than two weeks ago. This was my third Touch Pro in as many months. The first one had a bad keyboard as well, and the second one would never activate data (thought it was a Touch Diamond for some reason when the ESN was entered into the Sprint system). Hopefully this fourth one will do better. They were on back order, but the new one came in pretty fast. I had it ordered on Friday, and it arrived on Monday.

Last year or so, their policy changed regarding replacement phones past the 30 day trial, but within the 12 month warranty stage. Plus, i think no one was buying the insurance cause 'they didnt need it', so Sprint 'made them need it' by making people send the phone to the manufacturer. However, i think the caveat is this, the store must be a repair center, not just a retailer. My friend just helps me NOT have to go through the bull crap of having my phone in multiple times for the same problem, the end result is the same, i just dont have to waste so much time.

when i tried to use that link and typed my address it told me i had a sprint store 15 miles from me... so it wouldnt let me order a new one... told me to go to the store.


so i called sprint and explained what was going on and they send me a new one... im stationed in Puerto Rico right so they cant send it here( dont know why) but the was was shipped to my house in VA and it will be send to me today.

Hmm, that's really strange that it wouldn't let you order it directly from the website like it did for me?! :scratch:

It said it would charge my sprint acct $55 on my next bill? Not really sure why...At this point, I just want a new phone because I'm tired of using the SIP keyboard!!! My KB has been flaky for the last month but now it's completely dead. A soft reset would fix the problem for awhile but now I get nothing.

I'll gladly pay $55 for a new phone though. I don't have insurance on my phone and I bought it from best buy. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

and yeah i have the insurance so maybe thats why. this is my 3rd ppc phone ( 3rd pro as well) so i'll be glad to pay for the insurance, i have learned that along the way.

i actually upgraded to the pro from the mogul because of the insurance. so i didnt pay anything and i didnt have to sign up for 2 more years.

I had the same issue, the keyboard died on my phone. When I called Sprint they told me I had to make a Assurion claim (Thats B.S.). So i went into the store and the rep ordered me a brand spankin new phone from the manufacturer, since I only had the phone for less than two months. It seems this issue is common on this phone. Makes me wonder if I made the right choice. I like the phone and all but I dont want to worry about malfunctoning again.

my 2nd tp is refurb, the one i have now... the one im about to get is new from what i was told. when i called i asked if i could get a new one since this would be my 3rd tp. the person told me she would add a note on the order but couldnt promise i would get a new one...


from what my wife told me, it is a new one. i will check when i get it.

I had the same issue with my first TP with sprint, Seemed to have happened after the phone flew against the wall (dont ask..... it wasnt ME who did it. I have a retarded friend who cant hand a phone 2 feet and decided to throw it.) Anyway, I took it to sprint, they soft reset, then did a hard reset, They told it it was working, I go to the store, and of course its not working, And the awesome part is that they deleted all my numbers and decided not to back up anything! yay. thanks sprint. I enjoyed having 7 years of numbers deleted. So i *****ed untill I got a new in box touch pro. It worked.

(I've got his attention now) he tranfers me to a supervisor and i proceed to tell him that i have had it for 17 days, i need a replacement and to take off the bill for the last replacement because i'm not paying 600 bucks for basicly a diamond with baggage. he processes my cliam and i power down from super saiyen level 10:twisted: and allow him to live. but then he tells me that i will be charged for this replacement if i do not return the broken one.......so that means i now have a $1200.00 bill and a jacked up phone!!!!! does anyone feel my pain and anger???? on a serious note, i think we really must look into a solution for this common problem, is flashing our phones causing this. opinions?? please let me know:angry7:

I had this isuues on my last tp {im on number 4 now}

I called sprint and asked to be transferred to advanced tech support ....
I told the lady what was happeneing and she ordered a new tp be sent to me since this is a known issue
No problems with my new one

Sorry to hear about your troubles man. I'd be so heated...I just got my phone in yesterday and it was brand spanking new. I don't have insurance and I paid $55. I'm gonna send my old phone back today and I will definitely be monitoring the situation closely so they don't try to stick me with a 1200 bill!

FYI, I never flashed my phone a single time and I had the KB crap out. I bought it from best buy back in August of 08. My guess is, it has something to do with the heat problems. I stream music and always open the phone cause it gets hot. I think over time it melts something in there and causes the KB to become flaky and eventual die. That's just my .02 cents though..I constantly have my phone on the charger cause the battery life is so terrible..

Ok so i rarely get on this site but my latest tp just had the keyboard died on it... this is my third one... my 2nd had the same issue... so they sent me the one i have now, brand new and it only lasted about 3 weeks... this is ridiculous...

I initiated a phone replacement online because of this issue. Crap... I hope I don't get a refurb. The refurb I got a couple months ago was so bad I just shipped it back to them and kept my original phone.

FYI for the n00bz, if the model they send you starts with REC then it's a refurb. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll know what I'm getting until I get the email saying it's shipped :(

So I've had my replacement for about a month now and the keyboard is starting to crap out again. Huge lags when typing, it'll enter 5 spaces when press the space bar once. It will repeat letters randomly etc...

I've about had it with this stupid phone. How about HTC recall this piece of $hit and fix the stupid thing. :angry7:

I'm just gonna get a samsung rant and call it a day. At least I know I'm getting a crappy POS phone.

Normally, I would agree with you that it's just my luck. But seeing how people in this thread are on their 4th/5th phone cause the KB keeps dying, I'm beginning to think it's more than just me. Granted, it's a bit skewed because people don't usually come on the forums and comment on how well their phone is working but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Add that to the heat issues and the kb, I've about reached my limit with this thing. I believe it's time to ditch the Pro.

I desperately want to love this phone because it has everything I want in a phone. It just makes it even more frustrating...

I believe the heat issue may have something to do with the keyboard. I have had my third TP for a while now and have not had the KB issue again, had it with the second one. With my 3rd I switched to the Telus radio which doesn't get hot and now I'm on Sprint 1.11.0.0, I don't know, maybe its helping or I'm just lucky.

Completely agree that the KB is a heat related issue. I'm a pretty heavy user and I'm constantly having to charge my phone. I notice that parts of the keyboard get extremely hot. The area around the r,e,w,s,d,f,,z,x,c keys get noticeably warmer than the rest of the phone. And not coincidently it's the same area where the keyboard ribbon and the trap door (when the phone is open) is. So maybe the heat issue is melting the kb ribbon and it slowly deteriorates over time?

Since switching to the Telus radio prevents the phone from overheating, maybe that's why you've had better luck? Is there a noticeable difference as far as your phone getting hot with the Telus radio? Maybe I'll give that a shot when I get a replacement for my replacement ](*,)

Same problem I had. It would almost burn my fingers to type. I could see that. They told me it was a circuit on the main board, but they probably just thought they were talking to an average user.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. The difference was huge! I can run wifi while charging and its only be minimally warm. I have since switched to Sprint radio 1.11.0.0 and it is just as good as far as heat is concerned and it allows for updating prl and profile. I would definitely switch radios, it was the biggest battery difference I've had so far too!

Well, I updated the radio in hopes that I could save this phone before the KB completely quit working, but I guess I was too late. As soon as I got the radio updated, the KB completely stopped working.

I'm gonna go to the sprint store after I get off work today. I'm wondering if they will give me a new phone since it's been less than a month since I replaced this phone??

Sucks bro. Yea they should replace because it is in its warranty period and this is definitely a warranty fix. Be sure to download and revert back to Sprint radio 1.03 and relock. Good luck!

Just got back from the Sprint store. Just just swapped it out and gave me a new one. Good thing I relocked it before I took it back. I didn't think they would just give me a new one. Gonna update the radio asap, hopefully the 3rd times the charm.

I also had my phone keyboard die today.

I have a Sprint store near me, so that's not a problem. I also have been meaning to go by there to see why my rebate hasn't come through.

Before I take my phone in, do I need to flash it back to the stock ROM? I guess it would be a good idea...

I have a Sprint store near me, so that's not a problem. I also have been meaning to go by there to see why my rebate hasn't come through.

Before I take my phone in, do I need to flash it back to the stock ROM? I guess it would be a good idea...

Yea its a good idea to flash back to stock and relock the phone, because some reps can be a a##, but then again you can complain if the reps an a## and get a free month of service like i got when i had my palm 700 a while back.

Good idea, I complained last time my rep was an a** and all I got was a we are really sorry about that! Because it is 3rd party store. I really wish I had a Sprint corporate store here haha. Im tired of 1x!!

My rep today wasn't bad at all. Much more helpful than calling the damn sprint CS.

Thats nice, I like the reps I call in and talk to usually! They were vey helpful today when I called about getting my texts late.
