Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's

GSM may be slightly better now, but cdma has MUCH more potential. Also he has every right to complain u "10 app open" people! i have a sprint and the ram makes it so ****in fast compared to my mogul and i dont run 10 apps. the vzw one is slow as my mogul if not worse.

Has there ever been a phone that was so perfect, there were no complaints? Ever?

Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's

I think the point is that Verizon REMOVED memory. Why? All of the other Touch Pros have the full amount, so that is the standard for this phone. Why remove it? What could possibly be good about about offering LESS memory than the default amount that comes with the phone? This is why I will never have Verizon.

lol I was wondering about that... I don't recall seeing insurance option on my order form from ATT but at the same time I was thinking how the $5/month might end up being a wasted expense in the longrun, especially if there is a $100+ deductable. I need replacements within the first year usually but I have never actually LOST my phone so regular mfg warranty is good for 1 year as far as I'm concerned....

I really don't know what happens if you have sprint phone on Verizon network within the first year.. normally the carrier would replace the phone but there's no way Verizon will bat an eyelash at you with a sprint phone.. yer on your own completely or does HTC do returns for sprint-branded phones?

I may be hard to please but srievley hit the nail on the head for pointing out the origin of my gripe. It's not about a particular phone on a particular network, it's about how a particular network GIMPED a particular phone that is NORMAL on EVERY other network. My complaint is about verizon and how they seem to be on a constant quest to rape their customers for every last penny they can possibly get away with. Sure, I can get used to hitting an arrow instead of the M, I can get used to having to continue to hit oxious after I close every app, and I can most-definately buy a normal gps for my car instead of relying on my phone... but the point is... WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO when EVERY other carrier provides the Touch Pro in its full wonderous glory to its customers.

pffft.

Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's

Well, at least they're going to be unlocking the GPS shortly, so I'm excited about that.

I TRULY don't notice the RAM issue all that much, and like I've said before, it's really not slower than the Sprint version, which I've used extensively. Just because the Sprint/Alltel version has more RAM doesn't mean it's leaps and bounds faster.. hell my Touch had double the RAM as my Mogul and it was still a massive turd (at times, sometimes worse than the Mogul).

Yes, it's a strange configuration that the VZW TP has, but it's not the worst thing they've ever done and to be quite honest, it's just not as bad of a phone as you're making it out to be.

So back to my point, there may not be a lot of memory, but if you can't tell the different in speed when its near full then who cares

get over it
Yikes, had to comment on this one. You must not understand any windows os. Windows (not just programs) eat memory like no other. The operating system itself caches into memory. The more memory you have, the less paging is needed and thus more speed. Its not just a simple as saying how many programs you have open. Windows is notorious for poor memory management, memory leaks etc. Also depends on well written apps. When an app closes, it is supposed to reallocate that memory back to the os and other apps, but a poor written app may not give all that memory back. The closer you get to filling available ram, the more the OS is trying to keep it free by constantly swapping with the page pool, thus slowing things down. Also, you will notice people adjusting their page pools, taking extra available ram for this. This dedicates more memory for a page hungry os, thus improving performance and allowing the remaining memory to be used more effeciently. I could go on but the fact of the matter is, more RAM, better performance..ESPECIALLY on memory hogging OS's like Windows.

All that is true, but the point he is trying to make is that he isnt FEELING the speed decrease. It should be slower, but he cant tell and neither can I. In all honestly, it should decrease just like you said, but many people aren't seeing a decrease. I've had the sprint and verizon versions side by side and the overall speeds between the two were almost identical. Obviously it would be nice to have the extra ram, but I am content with what I have now.

In my opinion, I think the best option is to put the spint touch pro on the verizon network. You didnt like the vzw version, but theres still an opportunity to stick with the vzw network. It all depends on where you live and how coverage is in your area. For me, ATT is horrible and Sprint is spotty on their coverage. Thus, I chose to stick with verizon. For you, you might be able to go to Sprint or ATT and do just fine. At this point all you need to do is pick the network that is right for you and buy the touch pro on or port the touch pro onto that network.

I'm not meaning to be argumentative, I was just explaining that more ram is better, as he was stating it makes no difference. Side by side they may run nearly the same, but I would love to see stats of how many times a vzw version needs to be reset over a months time vs the sprint version. Overtime without a reset, the vzw will surely bog down more than the sprint or other versions. This is also tied to how much the phone is used, how many apps opened/closed..etc.

I dont dispute that the vzw version is not a good phone. I just recommended it to a verizon user friend of mine. With custom roms and tweaks it can run great. But the point of discussion was the idea of ram making no difference. It does and I would take that "uneccessary" ram anyday.

What the hell are you talking about? Obviously Sprint has already gotten the money for a Sprint subsidized phone. It's not like he broke into a Sprint store and stole the f'ng thing. And if Sprint's service in his area is lacking, why in God's name would he bother porting to them? Your logic is about as spotty as AT&T's 3G coverage.
