Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's
I think the point is that Verizon REMOVED memory. Why? All of the other Touch Pros have the full amount, so that is the standard for this phone. Why remove it? What could possibly be good about about offering LESS memory than the default amount that comes with the phone? This is why I will never have Verizon.

I really don't know what happens if you have sprint phone on Verizon network within the first year.. normally the carrier would replace the phone but there's no way Verizon will bat an eyelash at you with a sprint phone.. yer on your own completely or does HTC do returns for sprint-branded phones? I may be hard to please but srievley hit the nail on the head for pointing out the origin of my gripe. It's not about a particular phone on a particular network, it's about how a particular network GIMPED a particular phone that is NORMAL on EVERY other network. My complaint is about verizon and how they seem to be on a constant quest to rape their customers for every last penny they can possibly get away with. Sure, I can get used to hitting an arrow instead of the M, I can get used to having to continue to hit oxious after I close every app, and I can most-definately buy a normal gps for my car instead of relying on my phone... but the point is... WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO when EVERY other carrier provides the Touch Pro in its full wonderous glory to its customers. pffft.

Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's
Well, at least they're going to be unlocking the GPS shortly, so I'm excited about that.
I TRULY don't notice the RAM issue all that much, and like I've said before, it's really not slower than the Sprint version, which I've used extensively. Just because the Sprint/Alltel version has more RAM doesn't mean it's leaps and bounds faster.. hell my Touch had double the RAM as my Mogul and it was still a massive turd (at times, sometimes worse than the Mogul). Yes, it's a strange configuration that the VZW TP has, but it's not the worst thing they've ever done and to be quite honest, it's just not as bad of a phone as you're making it out to be.

In my opinion, I think the best option is to put the spint touch pro on the verizon network. You didnt like the vzw version, but theres still an opportunity to stick with the vzw network. It all depends on where you live and how coverage is in your area. For me, ATT is horrible and Sprint is spotty on their coverage. Thus, I chose to stick with verizon. For you, you might be able to go to Sprint or ATT and do just fine. At this point all you need to do is pick the network that is right for you and buy the touch pro on or port the touch pro onto that network. |

I dont dispute that the vzw version is not a good phone. I just recommended it to a verizon user friend of mine. With custom roms and tweaks it can run great. But the point of discussion was the idea of ram making no difference. It does and I would take that "uneccessary" ram anyday. Last edited by mdodge; 12-16-2008 at 11:13 PM. |

Re: XV6850 is the red-headed stepchild of Touch Pro's
What the hell are you talking about? Obviously Sprint has already gotten the money for a Sprint subsidized phone. It's not like he broke into a Sprint store and stole the f'ng thing. And if Sprint's service in his area is lacking, why in God's name would he bother porting to them? Your logic is about as spotty as AT&T's 3G coverage.
