Looking for a Sprint TP....

I'm in the market for buying a new Sprint TP (after selling my Verizon TP), but I'm noticing people are saying they have a good/clean ESN, and some say bad ESN. What is the difference? How will this affect me porting the Sprint TP to Verizon?
