I hit up 9 stores on the way from Portland to Puyallup, and was able to get 2, both at the repair center in Olympia. I just told them honestly I was dying them and wanted to do more colors. Showed him the black one and they game me an extra so I could always have my "stock" color. So I have a total of 4 now, still trying to get more. I have to make a drive to Houston in the next couple weeks so I'm hoping to hit a good 25, 30 stores.

Well it looks like repair centers are our best option. I just called PDC Phones directly, formerly UTStarcom, and they wanted $35 for a battery cover + Shipping.

Oh, and they are sold out for 3 weeks.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

Alright,
I have a few questions on the dying. Here's what i'd like to do..

1. Put the classic Windows logo on the back of the phone with a stencil. Then drop in the dye. After the dye, remove the stencil and I should have the Windows logo on the back of the phone right? Can anyone think of what material/adhesive I would need to use to make the stencil stick to the phone while dying it?

2. Put the new school Vista logo in place of where it says "HTC" on the back panel. Anyone have a method of removing the plastic camera guard? I feel that once its off I can shave the "HTC" down and put the Vista logo in its place.

I used decal stickers and it worked out pretty well.

Someone earlier in this thread did something similar with a longhorn logo. Should just be able to go buy a blank sticker sheet and use an exacto blade to cut the windows logo out of that.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that the dye came off a bit on your hand. That's one main reason I've hesitated up until now. What are people's experiences - it that an issue?

Thanks!

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

Well crap... my local repair center(s) ALL refuse to give me a battery cover - and I seriously did lose mine. They said I have to pay $35 for the replacement because it is considered an accessory. I desperately need to get a cover back on this thing before I lose my battery...

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

So I went to do a blue one, and discovered that I shouldn't use Navy Blue. The dyd is basically purple, so if you want a "lighter" navy blue, you get violet! YAY! So now I'm doing dark green, gonna pick up some royal blue tomorrow.
