Thumbs down Re: Garmin XT

I have both Garmin XT and Igo. I like Garmin (and paid a fortune for it) but the position update lag makes it unusable. Igo provides a much smoother update with almost no lag and with great looking 3D maps. I dont know how the Igo folks get that performance running in the touch pro. Igo seems like it should be more cpu intensive but it performs much better, Don't know why. By the way, both these apps performed much better on my old HTC Touch. I hope the gps lag gets fixed on the touch pro.

Re: Garmin XT

Garmin i feel is by far better than TomTom for the simple facts that it doesnt lag as much and it locks onto sats quicker.

Re: Garmin XT

I have iGuidance v4 on my PPC. It has TTS and overall a very good program. However it lags really bad when used with the built-in GPS chip in the phone. I use bluetooth HOLUX GPSlim 240 chip and that works great, love it. As for having directions read to you through the bluetooth headset, you can do it 2 ways. 1) get software that allows audio to go through to headset or 2) get a headset that supports A2DP bluetooth profile. I have Plantronics Voyager 855 and it works great with my GPS and my mp3s.

Re: Garmin XT

No problems with either Garmin or TomTom on my VZW TP.

I mean maybe it lags by a second or 2, but nothing close to rendering it useless.

You guys who complain about lag, can you better define what you mean by lag?

Also, I find Garmin easier to use than TT. I think it also looks better. Can't really compare the maps though and that is really what's important.

Re: Garmin XT

The lag i noticed with TomTom was while driving it was always a street behind and my speed would be about 5 mph off.

Use bluetooth audio. It will work, but the volume isn't the best. I will try to attach a cab of it for you.

Hope this works for you.

So how many seconds behind would you say it is? Is it telling you to turn after you are already past the street?

Re: Garmin XT

Ok, then yes, that's bad.

Garmin definitely alerts me with enough time to turn (VZW TP)

Re: Garmin XT

I used to own Garmin, then I lost the dedicated card it came on. (legit)

It popped out of the SD slot on top of my Palm 700p. I couldn't get service from Garmin or Palm who I purchased the Garmin though.

I won't use Garmin ever again because of their response to my needs.

Just my two cents.
