Not a problem. Microsoft techs get that a lot

Have you read this MS KB? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

In XP Home Simple File Sharing is enabled by default so you should just be able to share the folder and it will be visible. Browsing to an XP Home machine can be finicky at times though so you can just type in the unc path in your TP. The path would be \\Your Computer Name\Shared Folder Name or you can use your pc's IP address instead of the computer name.

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

I didn't read every word of this thread but here is how this is done (or at least one of the ways).

1. Setup shared folders on your PC. It looks like this is already done.
2. Get the computer name or IP address of your PC.
3. Turn on WiFi on your phone. If it automatically connects you to your home router go back into your Communications settings. Hit the Settings button on the bottom right and select Wireless LAN.
4. Hit the Change Network button on the settings screen.
5. Select your router again but in the "Connects To" dropdown, chose Work. Hit next through the end.
6. Now in the built in file explorer you can go to Menu->Go To->Open Path. Put in "\\YourComputerName" or "\\192.168.1.XXX" (your local IP address)

There ya go. It's alot easier than it looks.

Or any other folder you set as shared. Then you can use the resco network tool to view the files on your computer as if they were on your phone.

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

got it working! Well sort of. When I try and open an mp3 it doesn't play...

edit: I can copy it just fine.

double edit: I edited the line above because there was a bit more to it than what I said and I didn't want to throw anyone off...

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

I see both my machines and my home network is fine but when I click one, I get the pinwheel of death.

Edit: Woot! Got it working. Took about 10 mins to get a login prompt

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

Is there any way to just run a file from the shared folder or do you have to copy it to your phone first?

I use Total Commander file explorer and it lets you stream audio from a shared location on your network.

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

Ok, so now what if I'm out and about. Can I connect to my computer's ip the same way or is that an entirely other subject?
