1. Setup shared folders on your PC. It looks like this is already done.
2. Get the computer name or IP address of your PC.
3. Turn on WiFi on your phone. If it automatically connects you to your home router go back into your Communications settings. Hit the Settings button on the bottom right and select Wireless LAN.
4. Hit the Change Network button on the settings screen.
5. Select your router again but in the "Connects To" dropdown, chose Work. Hit next through the end.
6. Now in the built in file explorer you can go to Menu->Go To->Open Path. Put in "\\YourComputerName" or "\\192.168.1.XXX" (your local IP address)

There ya go. It's alot easier than it looks.
OK, so if it's so simple, why can't I do it? [Insert your insult here ]

I get "The network path was not found" error. I've tried everything listed in this forum, except that I have not installed any of the "rescom" type explorers; seems pointless unless I can connect. BTW - In case it is related, my phone will not connect to my pc any more via usb, so I can't ActiveSync or Data connect any more. I have worked through all the tips to fix that, as well, with no luck.

Thanks from a frustrated WM user.

When you start getting those AS issues where your phone absolutely won't sync no matter what you do, that's a good sign to hard reset. They most likely won't be resolved.

Every single ROM I've had eventually quits working with AS. However, when I couldn't sync I was able to use the network folder trick.

Have you allowed it with all your firewalls?

Re: File Sharing Over WiFi Network

Still a little confused...is there a definitive answer to the possibility of connecting directly to my laptop using wifi? Or do I have to go through a router...I have tried using my home router but Vista is so buggy on connecting to it just doesn't seem to work...go vista!!

I got far as making an ad-hoc network and then searching for wireless devices with no luck, just doesn't seem to find my Mogul. Even when connected...

So, I created an Ad Hoc, connected my phone to it, but did not find a way to actually view any files on my computer...

any thoughts out there? Point me in a direction?

thanks for the help in advance from everyone, great site!!

Edit: Woot! Got it working. Took about 10 mins to get a login prompt
I got tired of getting the POD every time I did something related to the network or exploring files. I was using HTC's Network Plugin for File Explorer, and I too would get the 10 minute PODs and then get a login prompt to map a network drive. After mapping successfully and browsing, it would eventually lose connection (after disconnecting/reconnecting WiFi?), resulting in PODs any time I would either open File Explorer or browse folders from a program. I just decided to disable the Network Folder entirely.
