Make sure that "USB" is selected in the drop down list, then click the Connect softkey (bottom left). Once you see the status change from Disconnected to anything else, possibly even "Connected," click the left soft key once more to Disconnect. That's all it took for my friend's Touch Pro.

another possibility which happened to me is that outlook is corrupted
in outlook go to > help > detect repair then let it run usually takes a few minutes good luck |

Here is another solution that may apply,
go to active sync, Menu,connection. Make sure it is checked. This drove me wild for a lil, that phuking biatch setting came unchecked somehow.

I don't know if you've fixed this yet or not, but I had a terrible time initially getting this to work too. All of a sudden, my computer would only read the SD card in the phone, not the phone itself. Try removing the SD card and then connect the phone, this solved the problem for me. Then you can reinsert the card and just connect it to the computer and it shouldnt have problems in the future.
