MMS on Sprint?

That is the question yes? Will these two new devices usher in the era of MMS on Sprint's WM smartphones? In February/March the official Sprint position was 'later in the year' because they were 'working with microsoft.' Both of these devices have good cameras, the GSM versions have MMS, so wouldnt this make sense to launch their WM MMS with 2 flashy new phones? I mean, they launched their Visual Voicemail with the Instinct.. this SHOULD be the time to give us MMS.

i believe that these devices will have MMS, not from anything official. It just seems to make sense they will launch it with the new phones.

I hope so too... That and visual voice mail. That's something I miss on my Instinct that I returned, but I'm a smart phone fan, so I'm hoping that Sprint will do something about MMS and VM.

I cannot express how sad it is for me to receive pictures but not send them on my mogul, this wont effect my purchase, but i'd be very mad to not have it

Yeah, sMMS is very easy to use but I think you gotta know your picture mail username and password for the initial setup.

Never tried that program, but is it pretty reliable? Not sure if it'd be worth it to download it for a month or two, since I'll be upgrading to the Pro. Where exactly is the cab download available for that?

Off topic: JoeBobOneHalf, not sure if anyone's ever mentioned this, but your pic in your avatar looks just like Sasha Vujacic of the L.A. Lakers! =D>

Well if you look at the diamond user manuel for Sprint, it has MMS (Picture Mail). Im sure the Touch Pro will too.

sMMS costs money.. MMS should have been avaliable since 03, like is has been with FAR phones.

No video with sMMS, because of no video through picture mail online.

Sprint needs to stop blocking our picture mail.

It is not Sprint the HTC software and acrsoft had several flaws and Sprint did have to shut it down but i was told there is a work around but would have to call HTC for software support. Hell I work for Sprint in retention and never heard of this LOL> But employees accounts told me this and they find out more than we do sometimes.

This is a little off topic from this thread but since you work in retentions I am going to need you to hook me up on a couple of touch pros, thanks in advance, lol. I am being serious though

I doubt it has MMS. Nothing but pure speculation. Hopefully it will get patched later to include it.

Speculation isn't necessary. It's in the Sprint Diamond's manual, and I can't see why the Pro wouldn't have it as well.

I 100% agree! I don't see why they would leave it out especially when the Pro version is supposed to be the "top" model in the Diamond series.

Question, if it's a conflict/flaw between the ARCsoft and HTC software, why do all other providers have MMS working on these and other HTC units? I am sure as picky as Verizon is with stability on their phones, because their customers demand stability, they would have been the first to pull the plug on it?

BTW MMS used to work and worked well. Then Sprint blocked most PDAs, siting they could use the internet access instead and something about saving on their MMS server's bandwidth..

i read the manual and it states that you can send MMS (pictures and videos)...page 158 on the PDF manual of the diamond...check it out...

And Arcsoft MMS only works with VZW, but the only problem is that it takes a while for the message to be received.

The Picture Mail app will be available for ACE, 6800, 6900, Q9C, 800W as downloadable client arround mid Oct08.
All future WM devices will have it embeded starting with the Diamond launch. But you need a plan including the service.
And the BB Pearl as well as the Curve should get it too with the right plan.

If you use the following addresses and have the phone number of the person you want to send a picture to, you can do it through your mobile:

Sprint: (10 digit phone number)@pm.sprint.com
Verizon: (10 digit phone number)@vzwpix.com
T-Mobile: (10 digit phone number)@tmomail.net
ATT: (10 digit phone number)@mms.att.net

Only catch is that you have to know the person's provider. Other than that, it has been a work around for me.

Thanks! I'm gonna test that out.

Either way, I hope that the Touch Pro has mms. It won't be a deal breaker for me (either way), but just easier.

I'm not totally knowledgable about the difference between MMS and the sMMS program (that everyone seems to have been using for the Mogul and Touch), but if you know more, could you ellaborate on the "tehcnological" differences?

Anyhow, I saw that it is going to have MMS, but some "tech" people seem to think it is just a version of sMMS (which, I don't know what the difference is).

No Arcsoft came with the HTC touch I got mine the day it came out and when i started it up it installed Arcsoft and it did work until around I think Feb or so but before then I had a few errors here and there. See it also installed OZ at the same time. but Arcsoft did work.

Sprint doesn't have true MMS. It has its own version called Picture Mail, which most refer to as MMS. With Picuremail, the media stays on the Sprint server and you will either get a text message with hyperlink to it or if you are lucky, your app will display the picture/media for you. True MMS sends you the media directly.

sMMS is basically a web browser shell for the Sprint picturemail website. It is very nicely done as well, which is why I registered it.

Sprint previously allowed picturemail apps like Arcsoft to work, but they blocked them after a while. sMMS works because its using the website rather than the protocol that Sprint blocked.

I don't use Picture mail that often as I mainly rely on email. If any of my information isn't completely accurate, feel free to add on.

EDIT: Here is a nice article which should clarify some things. I know the author back from my Treo days and he's very knowledgeable.

Yeah, I was looking through the Sprint Touch Pro manual and saw that it was Sprint Picture mail. Either way, it'll work for me. Don't do too many mms messages anyway. Just nice for me to have an option, without having to download another program.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. the diamond and the touch pro both have mms. when you receive a pic mail on the diamond, its on your phone. you don't get a link to follow.

True it does stay on the server but you also mention sending it directly to you. And what i'm saying is that it does send it directly to you. you DO NOT get a link to follow. So being as it sends it directly to your phone, doesn't that make it mms?

Sorry guys...I'm totally confused. So the "picture mail" that it states in the Sprint HTC Touch Pro manual is true MMS? Just want to clarify.

I don't know what true mms is anymore i'm confused  but I do know that on the diamond, when you receive a picture mail or multimedia mail, you do not have to follow a hyperlink, the media will be displayed already on the phone in the picture mail folder.

True MMS is what the Diamond and Pro have: the data is transmitted TO YOUR PHONE without having to access a server to view it. It is received as any other text message except there is an image in it.

[Not sure about this] The version of MMS that Sprint has, 'Picture Mail', is link based. The Sprint server receives the image, holds it, sends a TEXT MESSAGE with a link to your phone, and you RETRIEVE the image from the server.

Thing is, in the Sprint manual for the Touch Pro, it has "Picture Mail" listed (which described a MMS type function) and it showed the messaging screen, w/ Text Messaging, Picture Mail and Email. I didn't really read into it too much. I'll see if I can find the page really quick.

-EDIT-
Found it. Page 168-169 in the Manual. From what I read, it will work exactly like MMS, except labled as "Sprint Picture Mail." It will require registration on the Sprint Picture Mail website (if you don't already have an account), but after you've registered once, you'll be able to send MMS messages through Picture Mail...at least, that's my understanding from what I read in the manual.
