-EDIT-
Found it. Page 168-169 in the Manual. From what I read, it will work exactly like MMS, except labled as "Sprint Picture Mail." It will require registration on the Sprint Picture Mail website (if you don't already have an account), but after you've registered once, you'll be able to send MMS messages through Picture Mail...at least, that's my understanding from what I read in the manual.

Ahh... so it may just be an issue of names! I hope it works like True MMS, however. I don't want to have to connect to the interwebs to get a picture.

Thats fine, my girlfriend has a diamond and I send her pics all the time, and they go directly to her phone, no hyperlink. THANKS TO ME!!!

The phone is likely doing the work in the background and downloading the pic from the picture mail website. The end result is the same, so its not too big of a deal.

I agree with you. Thats probably exactly whats happening.

If it requires registration at the Sprint picturemail website, then that sounds exactly like what is going on. True MMS wouldn't require registration as it would work just like the existing SMS system.

This is not true. It requires registration, because sending mms is not free. You have to have picmail on your account. But once you do have pic mail on your account (all it means is that you pay for it, and by having an unlimited data plan you pay for it) after that, like i've said at least 4 times before, it is just like an sms, the pic goes directly to your phone. The only reason you have to register for picmail, is because sprint is doing us a favor, by saving it on the website, even though its already been downloaded to your phone. So by having us register at sprint pic mail is only doing us a favor. If we didn't register you would get the pic on your phone then that would be the end of it. What if you lost your phone or something, sprint has all our pics that we send or receive backed up on sprint pic mail. I really don't understand all of the confusion, is it just because you have to register, is that the only thing from keeping people from calling it mms???

Re: MMS on Sprint?

Another thing I thought of is how picture mail shows to non-sprint customers. Given, I don't use picture mail that often, but when I sent one last to my wife's AT&T MMS capable phone, it was a text message with a link.

This might not be the case anymore though as I haven't tried sending a picture mail to a non-sprint customer in a while.

Someone quoted the manual saying registration was required to use the functionality. On other carriers, you don't have to register, because its just like SMS, billing and everything. The fact that registration seems to be compulsory suggests that the MMS on the phone is just intercepting the text messages alerting of a new MMS and downloading it from the site automatically, and to send pic mail it actually goes through the site.

I believe you maybe right, but the way the app works, its like mms because it downloads the pic for you from the website, and when you send a pic mail the app logins into your sprint account and sends it for you also. This is why the pic is always on your phone and on your sprint account.

Re: MMS on Sprint?

Just to throw a little more information about "picture mail" out there, I went on the picturemail website to check it out and see how to register. Tried to register my primary phone (mogul), but it wasn't recognizing my phone number. Sprint CS told me it was because the mogul doesn't support picture mail, but I went to register a couple of phones I just upgraded for my other two lines (one is a Samsung m520) and I noticed that, if you don't have a talk/data/share plan or a unlimited plan that includes picture mail, there's a charge for "vision" (which I didn't think they had anymore).

Anyway, don't know how that affects people with SERO plans (because I'm not too familiar with those), but for me it was completely free...so I didn't mind registering.

This is exactly what i'm saying. its free for people with sero or unlimited data plan. its a service that benefits the customer. We should be happy they don't just send it to our phones and delete them.

I'm not saying its bad or not mms like, it's definitely a nice feature and if it works like MMS that's great. I'm just pointing out, and agreeing with stroths, that it isn't 100% true MMS like most other providers do.

Also, I happen to have registered a while ago to test sMMS. I was able to register my Mogul fine.

I have also had no problems registering with a mogul. I have and use sMMS on a regular basis, and with the latest version it works almost exactly like people are describing the new Diamond/TP app working. It intercepts the link and downloads new MMS messages automatically. Sounds like Sprint ripped off sMMS!

Re: MMS on Sprint?

I hate calling it MMS. It's more like upload to picture mail site and then they send it out.
Maybe we should call it PMS. Since thats how it makes some people feel after trying to use it with another application running or sending a PMS message fro mthe album.
Thats the reason you have to set up a picture mail account on the site.
Other carriers MMS services dont work like that. Sprint's "MMS" is more like a hacked email message. With them being the MITM.

It does seem very flunky to say the least. It would be nice if they made it more like traditional MMS on the user end, yet maintained the PictureMail website. Using sMMS, I have come to enjoy the fact that messages are saved on the server, and I have my aresenal of tactless and tasteless forwarded messages no matter how many times I reflash!:headbang:

I personally dont like the fact that my messages are stored on a public server. Those are personal. I dont want some hacker to get into my account and look at pictures of my family. Sprint had a flaw in the past that would allow you to get right into anyones picturemail account if you knew their phone number without a password. Google it.. With a bit of time and some leet skilz just about anyone could do it nowadays. I have found a few flaws in the system so far. I know the MMS process, I write MMS and SMS apps at work. We take the image and send it out over a GSM modem card. It then goes to our carrier and the goes through an MMS gateway. IDK.. I just wish sprint would stop trying to re-invent the wheel on so many levels. I understand thats part of progression and creativity, but they just suck at it. They need to start listening to customers needs.

as a customer, I like the fact that my pics are stored on a server. If I lose my phone or hard reset it, all messages are gone. The fact that someone sent me a message and sprint backed it up for me, i kind of like it. i'm not worried about someone hacking into my account. I honestly don't think this would ever happen to me, or anyone. The only bad thing is if you have someones phone, you can go on to the website then click forgot password, it will then send the password to the device. if you have someones device you have someones password to there picmail until they change it.

Sprint Picture Mail

When sending a picture, the recipient doesn't ever receive it but I do! The message along with the picture is showing up in my Sprint Picture Mail inbox and not the sent box.

Is it giving you any error messages when trying to send it?

No. It says sent but it sends it to me. It appears in my inbox like the person I sent it to actually sent it to me with their name & everything. My other e-mail accounts are working fine; if that makes a difference.

MMS or Picture Mail With the TP

Ok now I currently have a SERO plan. Is there anyway to txt msg pics (mms) without paying the additional $5 a month for picture mail. If not, will picture mail even allow me just to send pics to other phones with different carriers?

Sorry I know this is a newbie question, thank you for any help.

This happened to me last night and I had to call sprint to fix it. 1st see if you can log into the sprint picture mail website. I had a error saying my # wasn't a valid Sprint #:disgust:. Once that got fixed and I was able to log in, I still couldn't send pictures, I was like WTF! When I called tech support they made me update my username in the ##3282#. After that all I did was hit update profile and BAM! 6 pictures left my inbox and went to where it needed to go. Before the picture just stayed there and in the properties it says "Trys was like 6 times", so you may need to update your user profile is all since you already updated the cab like I had done as well. Hope this helps!

I am aware I can do it with email, but I wanted to send it via something like a txt msg. Is there MMS on this phone or is that what picture mail is suppose to be?

Yeah mine doesn't. Somehow I must have gotten messed over on that. So it I just pay the $5 a month I should be able to use Picture Mail to send pictures directly to other people's phones, even if they have another carrier correct? And then also receive them?

Go to your account and look at the area where it says "change addons". It will be located right below your account details. Mine shows picture mail included. If yours doesn't, I would email ecare or call them and have them add it at no charge since the plan should include that.

Thanks I will call them in the morning. On the change add ons, it doesn't even have it listed as me having it or the option to buy it.

So the Picture Mail will work as the MMS?

I don't know, I've done MMS before without being charged, though it doesn't show it explicitly on my account. It also doesn't show unlimited texting, but my usage details page shows my text usage as being out of a limit of "Unlimited."
