Re: Opera Mobile slow

I was using the newest esmertec ripped from the Rose from xda, and it works okay in VGA, except for the fact that the touchscreen doesn't work...

Please tell me if this is normal Opera behavior

Stock Sprint ROM and Opera installation. I've got the user agent set to make pages think I'm on a destop. I did this because I was tired of google home page defaulting to mobile view each time with jumbo font and having to select classic view every time I open it. I have text size set to large, mobile view off. The pages render beautifully this way, full desktop browser webpages zoomed all the way out but still readable.

The problem is I can't select any links. I have to zoom in a notch before it works. It's not a problem of hitting the links right with the stylus, because when I hit the link, it turns a different color, so I know I got it. If I hold the stylus on the link, I can do "open in new tab." But that's not very helpful when I want to go to page 2 on a google search. I also can't use a single tap to put the cursor in a text box, say google search page for instance. Again, I have to zoom a notch. It's pretty much making it unusable to have to zoom in / click link / zoom out each and every time I want to follow a link or enter text. I've been thru all the about:config options and can't find anything relating to how or at what zoom level links are triggered.

I've been using Opera for years on my Pocket LOOX 720 VGA and never had this problem. Same arrangement... full desktop browsing mode zoomed all the way out with text as small as I could go and still read it. It's probably a 2-3 year old version of Opera without all the modern touch scrolling stuff. I'm so far behind I'm wondering if I'm missing something here. I don't see anyone else talking about this. So does this mean it's normal and everyone has gotten used to it? Or is everyone else just not having this problem and I need to be looking at a hard reset or change in settings?

John, you can still run skyfire on the Touch Pro in landscape mode (do NOT let it rotate back to portrait). It's very ugly this way, but it still works. Too bad we won't get a VGA native version until next year.

Same for me, i find tapping lightly helps a lot, I don't know why, but it just does. I find that all my links click through when I do it. When i would do hard taps, i get the symptoms you describe.

I think thats just how this new opera works for a while i was using the old 8.65 on this but I am used to zooming for links now...It would be cool if they changed this since it is rather annoying

Do you have a download link? All I see at the Opera website is 8.65 final and 9.51b2. There's a thread here at PPCGeeks on 2392, but I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to download the upgrade or the VGA full version.

So with 2392, you can zoom all the way out - desktop browserish - and click on links? Does it retain the touch zoom function of the TP?

Anybody try 8.65 on the TP? Does it do the touch zoom? 8.6 is what I have on my LOOX.

Opera mobile customizations

I happened to come across the preferences page for opera mobile (opera:config) and I saw a lot of settings that can customize the way opera works. Do you guys have any tips or tweaks that can make opera better/faster/more efficient? I'm really hoping that I can customize opera mobile to have similar page loading speed compared to opera mini..
