Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
I have that turned off, along with T9/etc, and it's a LOT faster, but still laggy as hell. Doesn't matter what application I am in--it's as if we need new keyboard drivers...

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
the thickness is 4mm. yes its worth it. the diamond got extremely hot while on the phone or internet and that bothered me.
i have no major complaints with the TP and we're still on stock ROM. just imagine the possibilities once custom ROMs are available. *soils himself*

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
wow, I just froze my TP by typing a text message too fast. I just never sat and waited for it to catch up, and it completely froze. I had to soft reset. what a ****ing disappointment... wow..
I REALLLLLLY hope there will be a fix for this soon, because it makes the hardware keyboard (the only REAL HUGE benefit,) nearly worthless... edit: finally, BB says they will have some in stock tomorrow between 10am-1pm. A "drop shipment." They said there should not be a problem exchanging mine. God I hope I get one that works right, because it could be another few weeks before they get enough stock again... Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
I'm still on the fence, but have 15 days to decide...so far i'm leaning towards keeping the diamond.... have yet to see a real TP in the wild yet though only the fake demo at BB... coming from the mogul thoug i know what i'd be getting. still undecided and cant find anything to sway me either for or against sticking or switching... lol

In general: -Chrome scratches like butter (already have a tiny scratch in the chrome after 4 days and i never have a single mark on any of my phones) And i know i didnt bump it on anything. Ive always hated chrome on phones, its the first thing to scratch and wear off. And IMO its nice to attract the younger crowd but looks unprofessional on this device, theres just too much "bling" to it. Im relatively young at 27 and think its too gaudy and tacky. Would have preferred they just made it all black like the GSM version. -It does feel much much larger even at only 3-4mm thicker, its also taller. It must be the curves and how its rounded but it feels a lot bigger in the hand and it much heavier. -The build quality of the Diamond seems sturdy and flawless and the Pro already has a few nasty flaws in build quality. The dpad is uneven, i think the earpiece is a little worse (tiny tiny bit), the slider keyboard is horribly designed. When the phones closed, the keyboard can twist 5 degrees or so either way to the top portion. Also when you tap the screen the two halves of the phone "clack" together (top hits the bottom half tapping the screen). And of course the moving part (keyboard) will be the weak point and first to break. VERY disappointed in the build quality for a $600 "pro" business device. As someone else said somewhere you wouldnt just accept a $40-50,000 BMW that rattled and had build quality issues. This is supposed to be their high end device and its built like a $100 Sanyo Overall im FAR from impresssed to resign from out of contract SERO and drop money even if it is a cheaper $260 than Pro's normal price. Just my opinion. Of ourse the Diamond has its flaws too but theyre mostly software which can be easily fixed with a radio/ROM update. Last edited by SprintTouch08; 10-30-2008 at 06:42 PM. |

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
It fits much better in my hands then the previous Mogul. I can actually do on screen texts with one hand now, where before I couldn't because of the shape of the mogul. Also to me it feels a little heavier but again that's fine for me. I would rather have a more rubbery grip battery cover though to reduce the chances of slippage.... I love this phone.

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?
It sounds like a lot of people are coming from really crappy phones like the mogul, and haven't been able to compare the build quality to the Touch or the Diamond...
Honestly, my Touch was flawless.. Perfect screen, perfect speaker, cool battery, great GPS, etc... I just want that damn VGA screen! ![]() |

![]() But, the Mogul really isn't a crappy phone. Use a custom ROM like DCD's or no2chem's (with the camera off it gets like 33MB free RAM on boot) and it's decent (at least it was for my usage). I still use it from time to time as a wifi device, sad as that may sound. For those who have had a Mogul and now have the Touch Pro, do you find the keyboard sliding mechanism isn't as good as the Mogul on the TP? Also, is text entry actually slower than the Mogul on the keyboard?
