Re: Gps Fix???

i posted this in another forum, but i hear tell that this is an issue known to HTC about the GPS lagging behind your actual position. not slow to acquire, but slow to actually respond to movement. like, if you're following it to a T and are driving 60 mph, you may miss your turn.

wow..

This is like setting up a satellite dish inside your house and expecting to get all the channels. You need a view of outside.

A lot of people have issues, but never post what they are doing that causes it. 9 out of 10 times its an ID10T error. If it works outside, you are fine. Thats the way the device was designed. You don't exactly need GPS to know where you are inside a building.

Sigh.. No I am not mean, just honest.

It gets old people buying a device they know nothing about and saying how it sucks cause this doesn't work and that doesn't work when the device was well made and really doesn't have all the issues that everyone says it has. Like how the battery sucks.. well its a new device and you haven't put it down for 5 minutes out of the 24 hours you have been using it straight. Of course its going to kill the battery.

Most of this doesn't apply to you hotboy8628, I am just ranting.. but the manual really does have some good info. Im sorry if I am comming across as really rude.

actually the mogul got quick locks all the time while inside but thats because agps was enabled, it was actually locking to cell towers instead of gps satellites. so its a valid point. from all my reading this is the difference between just using the GPS and using aGPS.

Re: Gps Fix???

without agps, i think the qualcomm chip is worse at locking on compared to sirf iii chip in my mio nav unit....

at this point i would rather have a chip which is slightly slower at locking on and report correct position rather than one that locks real quick but can't keep your position when you are traveling faster than just walking...

Re: Gps Fix???

Yea, wow.

Usage indoors?

Here is a tiny lesson in radio theory.

All GPS systems work in between 1.1ghz and 1.6ghz.

The higher the frequency the harder it is for it to penetrate solid matter. This is a basic rule of thumb for all radio systems, you need a clear line of sight for it to operate properly. (There are exceptions, like using tropospheric scatter, ionsphere reflection, etc. But these methods are not palatable for ghz range freqencies)

Now, since GPS works by looking at satellites, which are several miles above the planet you obviously need to be able to see the sky. It is pretty hard to see the sky through a solid roof in a home or workplace.

Long story short, you need to be outside for GPS to work well. Car roofs are very thin compared to the roof of a house and the GPS signal can penetrate that fairly easily. You would probably notice a difference in lock times though from moving in or out of your car.

Well you did, but I understand, the problem was that I was getting gps lock with my mogul in less than 5 seconds and I'm not use to goin from less than 5 seconds inside to close to 1 mins or more indoors... So with that said boo, if there is a reg edit to turn on agps to so I can get a quicker lock if that's possible, I just wanted to know if it was my fone, because iwouldn't have a problem if others were the same but alot weren't.

Umm, have you run QuickGPS? You've never answered that and several people have asked, it is a program on your phone that will download the location of GPS satellites. You said something about having to prime it, QuickGPS does not even lock onto satellites heh. I don't have to prime anything on my phone, but I only use garmin and google maps which didn't need priming on the mogul either.

I'm not sure why you aren't running QuickGPS (it's in your programs) when so many people have mentioned it...
