Re: why the touch pro???
I love my Mogul and agree that I would have a hard time living without it which is exactly why I can't wait for the Touch Pro. The new screen is gorgeous, memory will make multi tasking a reality, better camera will make me want to use the camera (hardly ever do on the mogul), and a new keyboard will make my typing experience better as I have some keys that don't work consistently anymore on the Mogul. The other reason that I don't believe has been mentioned is the accelerometer. That thing is cool! Games and utilities (alarm clock shutoff, ignore incoming calls, etc) that take advantage of it are just going to increase and make the Touch Pro even more valuable... The Pro is an awesome device!
I've played with the iPhone and can honestly say it is a nice device. The Pro keeps me in the windows mobile world and has me just as excited... I just hope folks that are developing for the iPhone don't abandon WM. Microsoft really needs to copy the app store model and bring more incentive to developers on the WM platform... |

Re: why the touch pro???
cool. thanks for the great response guys.
I think that the post that everyone seems to be quoting is the best 'sell' thus far. (cordoder) You have defiantly convinced me to lean more towards the touch pro. but im still skeptical. it seems like the hardware can never keep up with the software. they release a new software interface but the hardware can just barely handle it. its like the hardware is always one step behind. that is a wicked amount of RAM. but i have another question for you. My ppc6800 says it came with 64MB of ram. and when i look at settings/hardware/device information, it says that i have 64mb ram total. But, 17MB ram is for 'OS program program memory and 47MB ram is for program memory. do u think the touch pro will have increased of both? (im sure it will) but do wee need more os program memory or just program memory? any thoughts on that. im sure with 288MB ram (or whatever it is) they will give each more. but how much is required for the OS. when u buy xp or vista is says on the box the minimum required ram. I have the htc task manager. just hold 'x' on a program when im done with it. if u hold x the app closes and exits memory, rather then run in the back ground. I also think that the accelerometer is gonna cause more hassle then we think. any of u have the ipod touch? or iphone? the dang web browser is always going into landscape mode when i set it on a table. it seems like the phone might ignore calls when u are walking with ur phone in ur pocket.(it ignores when it is flipped over screen down). kinda trivial i know. the only time i want to 'shake' my phone is when it is crashed. image a city full of people shaking their phones. also, is the gps with agps support gonna be free? or locked down. believe it not the FM tuner is a big deal to me. as long as there is realtime MP3 encoding. i could be totally wrong but i feel like im gonna be let down with the touch pro. after watching a bunch of demos/reviews on youtube, it seems like it is just like the mogul. the only reason i might get it cause everyone else is gonna have it and i dont wanna get left behind ;) |
Re: why the touch pro???
Here are the things that are big "selling" points for me to upgrade to the Touch Pro from my Mogul:
- Shorter & Thinner - Video viewing/streaming (No 3rd party software needed; more convenient for me, so I don't have to sift through posts on the forums to find out solutions. - Standard MMS (No 3rd party software needed; same reasoning as viewing videos) - Video Out (Based on a demonstration posted on YouTube, looks like it'll work w/ displaying Nav, since you can access the programs screen). - 5 row QWERTY w/ numbers at top - Compatibility with 16gb microSD, which is supposedly going to be released soon A lot of it, for me, boils down to convenience of use. I'm not completely inept w/ adding software to my PPC, but at the same time I'm not one to be able to figure out solutions of why a 3rd party cab file isn't working right on my phone. To do that, it would take me lots of time, which is not what I need for business purposes. Time=money. Time spent figuring out why a 3rd party cab isn't working right=wasted money. That's just for my situation because I like having the "option" to upgrade certain aspects of the phone, but may not necessarily do crazy things like many others do with the Mogul. All-in-all, the upgrade to the Touch Pro is a more convenient phone for me to have (e.g. better size, more standard options w/o tweaks, etc...). |

if u dont want phone calls to be ignored by the accelerometer, go in the settings and turn the call ignoring off...... im pretty sure they have thought of that ahead of times, the pros and cons, and made an option for it jus like the samsung omnia. |
