I stopped in and talked to sprint today... turns out the TP2 requires the newer data plans just like the pre, blackberries and other smartphones. I may have to go buy a diamond in case my TP dies. Sounds like I can keep my ultra-cheap legacy plan with that phone.
My friend had a Diamond, now she has an iPhone.

You can get tomtom for the pre. I have never had a real gps program other than telenav.

That is a LIE!

They tried to feed me the same shit, and I called their asses out on them, I called CS while standing there and spoke to a rep, asked if I could activate a TP2 on a sero plan, and they yes "yes we can, and there is no reason someone should be saying otherwise"

just call them out it next time, I'm starting to see that sprint retail employees bullshit more/better than car salesmen.

Re: Offered the TP2 or the Palm Pre, I chose....

Well, I heard that from two different retail spots (about not being able to active a TP2 on my legacy plan)... one was a sprint store and one was at a big box retailer. Both said the same thing... although the guy at the big box store said that he's heard of a number of customers allowed to keep their legacy plans by calling CS directly, but he said the software that they had in the store didn't allow it.

He might have been lying but since he passed along the info about how to work around his limitations, I'm inclined to believe him.

I love the UI on the iphone but AT&T's coverage is really, really, really crappy here in omaha. Not to mention there is no way I'm going to pay twice as much for my phone plan (my old legacy sprint plan) to get an iphone.

Also... I blame the recent cell provider rate hikes on apple.

The first gen iphone came out priced at something like $650... you could get it with reasonably priced talk/data plans ($40 phone plan + $15 data plan). When they came out with the second gen they started the trend of subsidizing the phone by requiring users to subscribe to expensive plans in order to get an iphone. Now other carriers have followed suit. I'd have a hard time buying an iphone simply due to the principle of the way apple has forced us all into over-priced plans.

And, yes, I agree my phone needs to be hard-reset every 3 months but I don't care... an hour to load a new ROM is worth it to save $600+ over 2 years. That's a lot of beer.

you wont be dissapointed. WebOS has gone along way since it first launched in June... now and February more than ever is the time to get a WebOS device since they filled most of the much needed gaps and missing features as well as make a huge performance boost in the last update.

Im still drooling over the graphics of Need For Speed

my TP2 is collecting dust in a drawer

Re: Offered the TP2 or the Palm Pre, I chose....

I got the TP2 for now because it was free, but being that I am already upgrade-eligible, I will be waiting for Sprint's next iteration of the Pre on which to play my upgrade card.

(So do I vote for both?) :P
