I don't thing E stands for error on some Roms I get an E when it is on 1x. I think that is the case here.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800)

so you think it's switching to 1x when trying to get an mms? i have tried over and over with different settings and each time i get the same result. i send an mms from yahoo or sprint or wherever and about the time i would receive on the phone, my 3g turns into an e for a split second, then back to 3g.

actually i believe you are right. when i call the phone the 3g icon turns into an e then dissappears. when i hang up, it appears as an e then switches to a 3g icon.

would we normally go to 1x when receiving an mms? possibley because 3g is in use? i dunno, mms is through 3g. maybe it switching to 1x is whats stopping the mms from getting to us?

hamac, that sounds correct. the one I currently have does NOT get the E when an incoming message because mine does not even receive it. but I believe you are getting somewhere. I know at once sprint DID require your user name and password... but I dont know if that would help any with the current settings you have set up... I have to wait until my wife so she can give me the information... at that time, I will post on that.

I read a few before and you gave some info on what you changed... or did you not? Just asking because once she is home I can add the info and test again.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800)

i didn't really post anything on what i have changed so far other than removing the settings from the internet apn and creating an mms apn.

nothing else seems to have improved anything. i have found however that instead of inputting the ip adderss as stated in my original post, using mms.sprintpcs.com/?x-mdn=(10 digit number) works the same as the ip address one. no change.

i believe just using mms.sprintpcs.com worked also.

i have also tried a few different mms.apk files from various places but those made no difference.

i have tried inputting user name and password but that didn't make any difference for me either.

at this point, with the tools i have, i'm not sure what else to do. but i'm sure something else will come to me shortly lol.

i have noticed lately that playing with the apn settings often resets my phone. i have had android reboot on me about 15 times today while playing with the settings. agrivating! lol the work continues on!

Nope. Runs fine on a locked Sprint rom. That's what I'm using.

First guess -- messed up SD partitioning. What's the last few lines in the console before it hangs?

Alternately, if it's stuck on the shimmery nexus one animation (the 4 color x) then it's probably something to do with the data partition. Trash data.img and try again.

Good to know the Sprint APN can be separate.

The E stands for EDGE. the RIL (I assume this is a RIL issue) pretends that the cdma network is a gsm network, so it uses GSM terminology... EDGE and 3G, instead of 1x and EvDO.

The upshot there is that the MMS is coming in to the RIL, getting mangled by it, and confusing the RIL into either dropping into 1x service for a second, or simply reporting that it's dropping into 1x service for a moment.

That's both good and bad news. Good news -- it gives a lot more credence to the guess that the problem is the RIL. Bad news -- now someone has to fix it. Which probably involves getting an AT Debug Log from WinMo for receiving an MMS, figure out how that's getting misread by the RIL, and fix it up to read it correctly. I don't think I'm qualified to do that, unless it happens to be an easy fix.

These frankenstein's monster CDMA android builds are to blame for that. They're built on all the GSM carriers stuff, but with a few bits tweaked to work on CDMA. The apns-conf.xml file is pulled from a nexus one, with some pieces added from other gsm phones. I added the one line for CDMA generic because every CDMA phone reports 310/995 as its MCC/MNC. As near as I can tell, CDMA doesn't actually use MCC/MNC, so this is just something that got hacked in to emulate it.

Anyway, apns-conf.xml just holds the defaults. When you add your own APN, it's the same thing as if it had read it from apns-conf. So whatever's missing there, it shouldn't do any harm.

I am curious how real CDMA android phones do it... do they even have an APN section in the settings?

She has the TP2, but I have a friend that has a hero and im sure if I invite him over for a beer or two he wont care if I mess with his phone, but he works tonight so I have no ETA...jejeje.

Woud anything from the Mytouch 3G (TMobile though...) would that would help? I think I can get my hands on one fairly quikly (in a few hours at most, can have the files by tomorrow... )... let me know.

The reason I mention the mytouch is I have a friend that wont mind if I borrow it for a bit, he will just put his sim card back on his previous phone. Im going to unlock it anyway so this would be an oportunity to dump anything else you guys may need. I will need direction though...
