tool1075, the buttons having issues is a known problem. we believe the issue is actually the hardware not the software. but it is a known issue and if a fix is found, it will be posted everywhere.

Do you mean that it is a hardware-to-software communication issue? Meaning... a "driver" issue? The hardware is probably fine, I would suspect, especially since it works with Windows Mobile.

However, maybe when you use these buttons in Android, and the signal is sent to the phone to do something, the driver is not handling traffic properly and not communicating correct function; perhaps a certain button press or combination of presses overwhelms a buffer, or some other line of code.

Or, are you saying that the hardware has a problem that doesn't show its face during use with Windows Mobile, and Android uses the hardware in such a way that exploits this issue?

I'm not sure. I'm just interested to see what people's theories are. I think it's so cool that I can use Android on my phone. Windows Mobile suuuucks. Android is much cooler, and I love that I can even use a terminal window if I want!

Think of the possibilities!!

Thanks again.

there has been some testing on this and people have found that winmo does have issue with it as well (touch one button but another is selected) using a special tool that tests the capative buttons.

i can't seem to find the thread easily or where they had talked about testing it but there were problems in winmo.

however in winmo you don't use those buttons near as often as you do in android. also i think winmo resets the hardware more often than android. if i come across the post of them talking about it i will post it here for you to read. i'm sure a simple search will find you lots of info though.

yeah, I did some searching; you are right - the issue is definitely common.

I think it would be cool to write a small script to reinitialize that part of the hardware, and then just run the script whenever the buttons start acting funny.

One thing I have found is when the Back button puts it to sleep, if you run your finger over the buttons to get them to light-up and then press it, it works. But you have to make sure it is the one lit when you press it. After having to do that for a while, it eventually straightens out.

that's a good tip, I'll keep it in mind.

I get poor signal strength in my office (where I am during the week-days) and my battery got totally drained today (was running android since the weekend).

I'll probably run windows mobile at work and android at home lol......

awesome - I have successfully used that tip to get the buttons working after they malfunction - thanks a lot!

now I have a weird problem I want to run by you guys-

So, had the phone plugged into power in my vehicle when I was at the gym. Came back to the vehicle, see that I have an email or two and a missed call. So, check the email, no big deal, then I return the missed call.

I get a couple of rings, and then my phone resets. But it doesn't reset into windows mobile; I look at the screen, and I see the XDandroid animation..... like Android rebooted itself back into Android.

Now, sitting here with the phone, I haven't shut it down yet, because I'm trying to figure out the problem. I can enable wi-fi and browse the web, but it just says "no service" for phone signal. So, can't make calls.

Is this a side effect of Android rebooting? Perhaps when Android reboots without Windows Mobile booted, it can not access the hardware radio?

Is there a way to reset this without rebooting?

Having used Linux in the (very) distant past, I seem to remember being able to recover things usually without a reboot.

Let me know what you think, thanks

Sometimes when it reboots the APN settings get messed up, check those.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro -- Now working on Verizon! And with GPS!

I just have one APN, named "Android" with the APN entry as "Internet"

I don't know why.... and I don't have any of the other settings filled in or anything. It just works with Sprint voice and data.... which is weird to me. I would think it would need other settings, but it doesn't.

I have since rebooted, so I didn't check the APN settings when the phone was not working correctly. I'll keep it in mind though, thanks.

I'm not sure I completely understand what an "APN" is...

I've had a lot of oddities happen when the radio has been active. Had an important call come in and I was able to answer, talked for maybe 15 seconds before it did just this.

There's still some bugs related to the CDMA radio, because the GSM guys don't seem to be reporting any issues like this.

Just saw the APN post, don't think that is the issue.
