Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
google maps, bing, mobile gmaps. Also garmin, tom tom, iguidance, igo etc etc. There are many better options besides paying verizon 10 a month

Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
Any luck on this? I haven't been able to find the cab for the Imagio version, and I can't download a new version from Verizon on my cooked ROM.

Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
Verizon has released the official 6.5 ROM for the TP2 along with a new version of VZ Nav that works with it. I flashed over to MightyROM and installed VZ Nav and when I open it, it says cannot initialize GPS.
I believe the official VZ 6.5 ROM has some updated drivers that VZ Nav needs to operate. Does anyone know where to get these drivers and/or how to fix this issue? |

Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
I am with you guys on this too!!!! Don't you just love the 1 liner responses? Never an explanation, or a link to what others say "are better". And you ever notice? Many of the custom roms will mention the SPRINT NAV working, but never a mention of the VZ NAV. I have even posted in those rom threads, asking the "chef's" directly if they can get our NAV to work. Either I am ignored, or lost in the shuffle with posts asking for dusk themes, or B&W dialer skins. Geez, buy a phone with one of the best COLOR (65K+) screens on the market, and you want to turn it into an ancient B&W TV??????????
So to get a bit more specific, perhaps then others could understand why I (perhaps we "few" others???) need VZ NAV to work, is this: I have a Pioneer Z3 NAV in my car. I love it, and the Pioneer maps don't look like some 1st grader drew it on my screen with 3 colors of crayon (as in the Garmin units). The Pioneer maps are extremely detailed, even more so as you zoom in. As I am still new to the state I moved to, I need to use the NAV nearly every day. And the highway system here is horrible!!!! One wrong turn, and you need to drive for miles before you can turn around. Just reading a map (as in a MapQuest printout) is NOT an option, there is no time for that. So too Google Maps on our phones. I NEED VOICE directions, so I don't miss a turn or exit ramp. Now the problem with my Z3 is that it is a DVD to hard drive update system. The updates only come out about every 2 years, and even then it is not always 100% up to date. Not to mention it is over $200 to buy the update. So there are times (even very important/urgent times as in getting to a new job interview at a new building/street address) I need to use the VZ NAV. So for Me (and the others), it Is worth paying the extra $10 a month. So why isit I see the Sprint NAV mentioned, or even added to the roms, but never our VZ NAV???? Two things I do know: 1) cooked roms, and even that "Cleanup" collection of tweaks I once tried on the VZW stock 6.1 rom, break the link in Opera to the special VZWAP web page. Not only will that page no longer load, but you then cannot get the link to VZ NAV to download it. And it appears to me that you MUST download the VZ NAV from that page, because it somehow recognizes YOUR phone, and then downloads a specially "signed" cab that will install and work on your TP2. 2) even if you did download that specially signed VZ NAV under the stock rom (6.1 or the newer 6.5) and saved it to your storage card or PC - once you flash to a custom rom, it will either not install at all, or will install but never work. And so thus, if there is no way to get VZ NAV to work on a custom rom, then could someone PLEASE post a link to an online ("live" updated) NAV or GPS program that has VOICE turn by turn directions? Once we have a replacement working NAV/GPS program, I would be more than willing to pay a nice premium donation to the chef with the best custom rom!!!!!!!! If you did good work on your rom, I would be more than happy to reward your hard labor, because you deserved it! But just also please help us out too. thank you Rocky |

Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
Honestly I never liked using VZ Navigator. I thought the GUI was the worst of any GPS I used. But I need to use for work because occasionally I have to drive large truck places I don't know and VZ Nav allows you to route based off being in a truck. Anytime I used another GPS app like TomTom it would take me down tight roads and on parkways that don't allow trucks. To buy a GPS that supports this is very expensive. To to have this feature along with always up to date maps with traffic alerts (which is usually extra with any other GPS) I believe it is worth it.
Now with VZ Navigator 5 I actually like the GUI and the voice recondition and everything. It actually operates like a normal GPS should and still retains all the features I need. To buy a separate GPS unit and update it every 2 years would actually be more expensive and I've searched for WM GPS apps that support truck routing and it is a very hard feature to find. If I can't get this issue resolved soon I will have to resort back to the stock ROM. |

Re: VZ Navigator on cooked ROMs
Guys, until we can get our VZ NAV problem figured out (most likely never, as it seems there is zero interest for VZ users), whih rom have you found to be the best 6.5.3/Sense 2.5 to use? Especially one with the MMS FIXED?
Thanks Rocky |
