Ya GPS is the one thing that is hard to get quality for free on WM. I would like to get something better also but too strapped for cash. Nearly everything else you can think of is out there free in some form just gotta use the Google.

as for GPS, try this:
go to this site and click "free download" then select the diamond as your device type.... you won't be able to download because they killed the server, but you'll get a code to enter...
install the attached cab and use the number it gave you when it asks for it

The issue is that the concept of "apps" now involves an "app store" like Apple or Google - or the one Microsoft is now kicking off. While there are many paid and free apps on these stores, up until now the HUGE number of free WM apps are not easily countable - as they are for iPhone and Android, thanks to the app stores.

The headlines read "Android has 10,000 apps available while iPhone has 100,000 apps". I wonder what that number is for WM? I'm guessing it dwarfs iPhone's.

Try this site.. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/. Some junk on it - but you can find a lot of nice free apps - with user reviews and feedback.

There are alot of apps... They just arent centralized yet. it takes time for all those to make its way thru the app store.

beat me to it. wm has tons of stuff. while it isnt hard to find, it isnt always as easy as an "app store". stuff is spread out on various sites. some of the best stuff is in forums. the wm marketplace really lags the other ones.
