Exclamation Continous reboot - Hands Free Activation?

My TP2 just started its death spiral today. No changes or installations by me I should add.

I see a "Hands Free Activation" message that it's contacting a server. This eventually fails reboots the device. This had gone on until the battery was dead.

Now when I restart it I get a full screen message saying to press the Up Volume button to do a hard reset or any other button to start normally. When I start it normally I don't get any Touch Flow screen. Then a bunch of Notification error messages and eventually a reboot.

Any thoughts?? Other than a hard reset??

Thanks in advance,

F

Hard reset...seems like it should do the trick. If not the first time, then do it one more time after you hard reset (power, send, end, reset button or clear storage in settings)

I want to avoid a hard reset. It'll take me several days to get the device back to the way I want it.

Seriously, has anyone seen this before?? Any other suggestions???

Why is the phone attempting to activate itself? I've been using it for several months now...

I have experienced this exact same scenario twice now and I agree a hard reset is a pain in the you know what. Anyone else? Maybe it is a specific app we installed or?

Like I said, I hadn't installed or changed any settings in at least a week prior. I think it was something that Sprint pushed to the phone.

My contacts are all gone. Fortunately I had them backed up.

After the "Hands Free Activation" fails, it displays the error code 1012.

1012 Error Code #1012 Could not prepare data
services. Please try again later. If the problem
persists, you may need to contact Sprint.

Re: Continous reboot - Hands Free Activation?

It might not be a new app, yes it could be something that was sent via sprint or it could be that the software thinks that the device is new and starts the device activation process. I agree that it is a major issue having to hard reset the phone. A couple of notes. One time I was able to cancel the activation and it booted fine. Another time when at the dreaded reboot screen I was able to hit another key other than the up key, wait approx 30 seconds and it booted properly. It is my guess that this thread will become quite large if it is not a specific app we both loaded. I would suggest using a backup program such as sprite, spb or myphone (free) in addition to syncing it as these will restore your apps and how you had most things setup beforehand.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

I think I'm basically screwed. The phone can now get passed the activation (I can cancel it) but is sluggish as He11. Keeps reporting that Opera9 is crashing and wants to send an error report. The G-Sensor seems to be reporting the opposite of the orientation of the phone (fun)...

If I don't get any further messages in the next few hours, I'm going to do the old hard reset. I'll tell you, if WM 6.5 and eventually 7 don't knock my socks clean off, this will be my last WinMo phone...

Do any of these do an image backup? I know I can set them up to backup files and folders which is cool, but can they do a 'system' backup?

WOW - Working again!

How mysterious is this? After around 30 hours of rebooting, messages stating that I had to do a hard reset, and MUCH frustration , the device is once again operating perfectly!?!?!

My contacts are back, Touch Flow is back, all my setting are there.

WTF? I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad (Trust me, I'm happy inside...) about this. What caused the problem? What restored it? How often can I expect this to happen??

UURRRRR........

Re: Continous reboot - Hands Free Activation?

Press CANCEL and phone will stop rebooting..

Go outside and do a soft reset. Let the provisioning happen. Just means you have LOW EVDO coverage where you are at.
