I'm going to make a video soon of WM6.5.1 in action and you'll see how fast it is--with cache tweaks it crushes Wm6.1 in scrolling speed and smoothness. Quote:
I'm using Wm6.5.1, which is a lot less "stable" than WM6.5 and it's solid, no soft-resets necessary. The Sprint ROM is pretty good, but a friend who is new to smartphones and WM asked as his first request: how do I make it less sluggish? So it's not that zippy, truth be told. You have to at least do some glyph and system cache tweaks to make it peppier, imo. Installing Chainfire's graphics tweak and/or Atom D3D also helps a tiny bit. Re: dear chefs:nobody is willing to cook 6.1 anymore? ! the forum misses 6.1
I know I personally fall in the camp of thinking that the best of the 6.1 builds I've tried (20954 tweaked by FormerPalmOS, and 21051 tweaked by Scrosler), have been noticeably faster than ANY of the 6.5 builds I'd tried on my TP1. Now, maybe this was partly due to the hardware, I dont know. But I tried many times to "upgrade" to 6.5, and usually within a day or two flashed back to one of the two mentioned 6.1 builds.
I do think 6.5 did some things better, and was pretty quick in some things, but it never was overall faster than the tweaked 6.1. I want to see video of 6.1 vs 6.5 BOTH WITH THE SAME TWEAKS, if you're going to show any videos. The way you said it makes it sound like you will compare tweaked 6.5 to a stock 6.1. I do run quite a few tweaks on 6.1 now and it's pretty damn quick on the TP2, on the TP1 it was blazing. My crowning achievement was seeing the full Windows folder open in the stock file explorer in about 1 second flat ![]() |

i've run the supposed 6.5.1 on my TP1.... I was not impressed. I did not like how much screen real estate the new soft keys took up at the bottom. I know this is not as much a factor on WVGA (unless of course you ever... you know.... use the device in landscape)... but it also did not play nice with some of the apps I use regularly.
What is so great about 6.5, really? What makes it so much better? The prettier soft menus (that go away if you change to a custom theme or at least did when I tried), that make larger menus more work than they are worth? Titanium? Those are about the only differences I saw at all. I just disable or dont use most of the stuff that makes 6.5 different than 6.1, which then leaves me with... a slower 6.1. *shrug* beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. And is there any evidence to prove that a cooked 6.5 is faster than a cooked 6.1? I'm basing this off of personal experience, whether it is flashing Juicy's 6.5, Mighty's 6.5 and 6.1, etc. Quote:
Drawing errors, mainly. Example: 6.5 on my Touch Pro would 'tear' the screen at random screens, mainly the dialer and the text messages. 6.1 NEVER did this to me. And throughout my experience with these roms, I always found 6.1 to be more stable. Example, Mighty's 6.1 Final rom was the most stable rom I used. Mighty's Final 6.5 rom was less stable, unfortunately. I can't give you specific examples of the bugs in it because it was the most random things. I believe that the moral to these posts and threads is that to each their own. I'll stick to my 6.1, you guys can stick to your 6.5 |

anyways, the difference in screen real estate is negligable at best see the attached pics below. 6.5.1 screenshot on top of a 6.1 screenshot. they took some off the top bar and added it to the bottom. pretty clear to see that the amount of screen is basically the same. which apps did it conflict with? i know i had some issues with resco explorer but it was an easy fix. i think its fair to say gents that we are all gonna have to agree to disagree. i concur that 6.5 isnt leaps and bounds ahead of 6.1, but it does everything 6.1 does and adds more features. the same cannot be said the other way. Fuzzy Wuzzy summed it up the best: "I believe that the moral to these posts and threads is that to each their own." Last edited by redd214; 11-05-2009 at 09:52 PM. |
