Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering in 2010?

You don't think Sprint would cripple our phones even more in the WM 6.5 ROM update in 2010? Could they permanently disable tethering via some update? I'm doubting we'll ever see FM Radio on our devices but taking away tethering would be cruel. I use it at the lake house in the summer or when I'm traveling and cant get a hotstop on my laptop sometimes, but not too often.

From the way I understand it, they will not be able to stop tethering without cutting off your internet connection.

Applications like PDANet make the network traffic coming and going to and from your phone look like it could just be you browsing.

Either way I wouldn't worry about it and I doubt they will make a huge effort to try to curtail casual use.

I agree... I use it in my Summer home in the Hamptons and at my condo in barbados and the villa in Spain (world phone). lol.
I hope they don't cripple it. It would cripple us little people too.

I remember PDANet back when I had my 6700 (or at least I think so). I never could get it to work back then...then again I know a lot more now then I did back then. Muhahaha

Re: Sprint to Ban Tethering in 2010?

My guess is it part of their wimax strategy...

lets look at it this way, even EVDO rev A provides similar to broadband speed with connections somewhat stable.

For WiMax they said they plan on making "quadriple play" like packages in the future where wimax would power cable, internet, cell phone, and the like.

from my understanding of what sprint "said" they wanted for wimax is once you are registered you will be able to use unlimited devices as long as they are owned by you.

so consider doing this..if you get 2 phones and 1 uses internet for your house via wimax and links to your wifi to offer VOIP calling...you just got 3 services for the price of 1.

One thing to note is why does it say to current lineup of Everything plans..does that mean if you don't have their Everything plan that doesn't effect it?

Great! Next time you're in Barbados, you should stop by my family compound. Hope they don't block tethering......that will definitely hamper my partying in Ibiza and those romps through the gardens of the Xiao Lin temples I frequent in the off season.
