This is what I currently do on my FZ6. I also use a battery tender lead plugged into a cig lighter socket with a car charger ran out of the zipper to keep the battery fresh while riding.

I used this with my Touch Pro on a 2100 mile trip last year I took from StL to Florida and back through 10 states.

Worked good but hard to see the screen and near impossible to use touch screen.

It got hotter easier than the Touch Pro 2 so I doubt that would be a huge issue.
