The fix to the battery drain (& that is DEFINITELY a common s2u2 complaint) is to quit using the bloated s2u2 & switch to PocketShield.

im not using any instant messenger apps and i have push internet disabled (using the cab file on this site)

I'm planning on uninstalling it after what happened today.
I had a phone call come in, hit the slide to unlock and the phone went into lock mode and then froze up. I had to soft-reset and totally missed the call.... It's a nice program but it just doesn't play nicely on my device. I'm sure others may find it useful though.
