My guess is he is recieving a NIB which would have been ordered from the warehouse. These phones are a priority 5 and can easily be ordered. Priority 4 phones are what the TP1 is supposed to be replaced with. The TP2 is on that list but this list is refurbished phones. The TP2 has not been out long enough to generate alot of refurbs which is why it's near impossible to get any ordered to a store. The rate people are wanting to swap out the TP1 to the TP2 is out pacing TP2 refurbs.

Some stores are ordering priority 5 phones which they are not....or were not supposed to do. If that has changed now than great but if not, I am certain these store managers are going to get raked over the coals. I know the store by me has not recieved any memo stating they are authorized to order priority 5 phones to replace defective TP1's. I am still waiting for a resolution as we speak though so who knows.

I just spoke to another ASC and was told that they were replacing the TP with TP2 but not anymore. It's either the black berry or palm pro. Dang it..I should've gone to that store a week ago.

Same question...was this through store or *2? Retention or costumer service?

No one is budging on my exchange. It's a refurb TP and that's all you're getting, they keep telling me.

No one even mentioned that WELL (WEL?) list to me at any of the stores I went to. The replacement TP I got yesterday is stuck in landscape mode and the keyboard doesn't work at all now. This is my 4th TP.

Called Sprint customer service today spoke w/ a Supv for about 30 mins, explained that i was on my 4th TP and it was a big inconvenience for me to keep going to the store..... Given the fact that i have been a sprint customer for years and had good accont history everything pretty much worked out in my favor.... Long story short we worked out a deal for me to get a TP2 for $100. I found this to be very fair given the fact that the people at the stores where being a$$holes about the whole situation...

Yep. They didnt mention anything about shipping my TP upon receiving my TP2. So once i get it i will use it for a couple weeks and if all is well I will just sell the TP and basically break even for what i paid for the TP2

What about if your TP screen is cracked but there was and is still internal problems?

When I slide my keyboard out to text or type in any info anywhere, after the screen flips anything you type does not show up. It's pretty much invisible and you have to either guess that you're typing without errors, or close the keyboard, wait the second for the screen to switch back, and then you can see what you typed... highly annoying. It did this even before the screen cracked, but of course I doubt any tech would believe me. Hmm..

In the event you still have to go through Asurion, do you pay the $100 and get a TP, or a TP2? 'Cause, hell, even at $100 it'd be worth it after 3 TP's.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

the crack in the screen will most likely disqualify you and make you have to go through asurian.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

Sprint will send you to Asurion if you have a crack in your screen.

I got another replacement yesterday for my TP. They gave me another refurb. TP and this one goes into a reset loop if it's reset while plugged in / charging.

Dunno what to do anymore. Every replacement TP they give me has some problem / defect.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

I am on my second TP2 and this one is new vs the first, which was a terrible refurb that reset 15 times a day and hard reset yesterday morning. It took a LOT of effort to get it though. I had to have a ticket created at the store, then had a phone rep call the store and tell the mgr to order it for me since he would not originally. Then the next day when it was in, he made me sit for an hour while he tried to confirm information with the store that gave me the refurb, who of course claimed they did not have any in stock and did not recall giving me one. I finally got account services on the line to move the process forward and the a-hole store mgr begrudgingly gave me the phone... the new one is much more stable...but TP2s are extremely hard to track down right now... for those with legitimate TP1 issues, I would honestly advise waiting a couple weeks for them to hit the stores...several other stores told me they would have gladly given me one to replace a string of defective TP1s had they had them in stock...I unfortunately ended up dealing with a bad apple at the store most convenient to me, but not sure it was worth the effort and hours spent on the phone getting bounced around...

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

Sprint replaced my faulty TP with a TP2, no problems, no hassle. Went to the store on friday and had my TP2 on monday! Brand new, not a refurb.

It seems like every sprint store is different, the sprint store that I went to told me it didnt matter if it was your first TP or your 5th TP, if it's broken they would replace it with the TP2.

This is a registry (software) issue. Some application you loaded must have turned on ClearType On Landscape. That option doesn't work properly on the Touch Pro. You can turn off ClearType entirely, or just turn it off on landscape.

Woohoooo!!! Just took two tp's into a service center, tech was about to order me a tp, I asked if there are options, he replies "yes." He gave me about 7 different options, I heard TP2, got a big grin on my face and I said...You order now!.....Don't give up people, it took me almost two weeks to find the right 3rd party store to be willing to do this! Corporate didn't even want to do it, and even some 3rd party people lied to me and said they took the TP2 out off the Wel list...

I have a mogul that is having problems and when I tried to replace it with insurance they wanted to replace with another mogul. I told them not to do it because if I have to pay out something ($100 in this case) I may as well dish out a little more and get a better phone (even if it is a TP1).

They are still replacing tp1 with tp2 but I think the kicker is like somebody said that you have to have 3-4 tp1's replaced in a short period of time. I've had 3 friends this week had their tp1's replaced with tp2. The big thing is to be nice and try a different store if one store denies you.

A friend had one store deny him, and then he went to the other side of town and they ordered him a tp2 right away. lol

Yo WTF MAN! I was only offered a Tour, Snap, or Curve. This was at 5 different stores. I just gave up and took the crappy as s Tour. I HATE BLACKBERRYS! I'm just gonna sell it for $300 and add another $100 to get a TP2

andrew.james 10-23-2009 08:01 AM

It worked for me.

Well I went into a Sprint Private Owned store and they said it would be a refurb Touch 1.

So I went to a Corporate Sprint store and said we have to replace with the Touch Pro 2 cause we have a lot of problems with the first one.

Of course, I am under warranty and have the insurance.

Just got it two days ago, and to tell you the truth, I don't like it. It is too big, no home button, same operating system, no flash. The only plus I can see so far is the 3.5mm jack. Looks like the Leo has the home button like the Touch Pro 1 did. WTF? wheres my home button?????????????????

So If anyone wants to buy it from me, I am selling the Touch Pro 2 BRAND NEW!!!

I ordered mine on the 22nd and it will be here on the 26th, Monday. I got a new car today and I'm getting a new TP2 Monday! Definitely one of the greatest two weeks ever!

Btw, all I did was tell Asurion my phone was broken and the claim thing said the Treo Pro and that that was totally unacceptable. They transfered me to a resolution representative and she offered Treo Pro and BB Tour. I said absolutely not, that's unacceptable. She then offered me the TP2 and said it would take 3- 5 business days because they weren't in stock.

Thanks everyone on these forums for being so entertaining and helpful, I appreciate. Now, I'm off to the TP2 forums.

is there not a website that you can act like you are going to file a claim and it will tell you what phone you would get as a replacement before you even file the claim? yeah you might have to pay $100 but thats a lot cheaper and less hassle than dealing with some of these stores/repair centers.

I think this is what you're looking for. It keeps telling me my replacement will be another Touch Pro though.

If you're using TouchFlo, hitting the back arrow (next to the Windows Key) takes you back to your home screen. Or, for a more roundabout way, if you hit the windows key, there's your home button there too.

I was a bit let down by the lack of home button too, but have decided that, as I've gotten used to it, that it isn't as huge of a deal as I first thought. Just my opinion I guess.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

Sprint is on a big customer retention kick right now, which is why they are replacing SOME customers Touch Pro's with TP2s. Sprint issued a notice to their technicians a bit back about the constant problems with the Touch Pros. IF your TP is giving you hardware failure issues, as Sprint will not replace your phone just because you want them to, here is how to get your phone replaced with a TP2 without using the insurance, or paying a deductable.

First, call sprint and speak to a technician at tech support. Explain the hardware problems to them, and ask them to open an E-Ticket so that you can deal with this issue at a sprint store near you. Inform them that you do not wish to get another Touch Pro, but would like another phone instead. Don't push the issue of the TP2 at this point, as they can't give you a TP2 replacement by mail from phone support.

Once they do this, you can then go into a Sprint Corporate store (Not a third party store that deals with sprint products). Once their technician verifies that you are having a hardware issue with the phone, that it has not been damaged by falls or liquids, and that it was purchased less than a year ago, they will then offer to order you a replacement phone. They will probably offer you a choice of several other phones that are not worth anywhere near what the Touch Pro is (HTC Snap, Blackberry, Etc.) Inform them respectfully that you don't feel that these phones offer a comparable trade for what YOU PAID FOR. They should then offer you the TP2 as it is the only other phone that Sprint has that is adequate in features to the TP.

Don't expect them to hand you a phone right then and there though, as the stores are not even stocking the TP2s yet. They will order a phone that will take 2 to 5 days to get to the store. After the phone arrives, they will give you a call. When you get back to the store, they will expect your TP in the state it was when the tech's looked at it on the previous visit. If you drop it, spill something on it, etc....there is a chance they will send you off to insurance. Your phone will be new in the box, but don't expect the deluge of extras that came with the TP. No case, no headphones, just a pretty basic phone/charger package.

Hope this helps those who are having issues with their TPs, as they are problematic.

This is almost exactly what I did before even reading this.

I have had 4 replacement TPs in the past 8 months or so due to hardware issues. This past Sunday, the 18th, my newest one's (month old) keyboard went out. I went to the auto replacement online and ordered yet another TP. I received my brand new (not refurb) TP on Tuesday (I am always happy with their quick turn around). On WEDNESDAY, my ONE DAY OLD TP's keyboard would short out periodically. I started reading online and realized they may be exchanging for TP2s.

I immediately went to my local Sprint repair (3rd party) who said they couldn't do anything if they couldn't reproduce the problem - totally understandable. They even recommended that I call retentions and they would probably help me get a different model.

So I went out to my car and dialed *2. Talked to CS, who sent me to tech support. I explained to the rep all the issues and how many replacements I have had. He was nice, as was I, but said there wasn't much he could do if the repair store couldn't reproduce the problem.

I politely asked for rententions.

He was willing to forward me and I got on the phone with an extremely nice rententions guy. I explained that I couldn't continue to operate my business from a phone that kept crapping out on me. He was apologetic and told me rather than cancelling, that I should go to a corp store that does repairs. The closest is 30mi. I told him I couldn't get out there and I couldn't afford for my phone to keep going out. I told him I knew a non-repair corp store was just down the street. He said he couldn't force them to do anything, but that he would call them and explain my situation. I appreciated the effort and headed over there while he called.

Right when I pulled up outside he called me back and claimed they would be willing to help me find a replacement. I asked about reproducing the problem and he said it shouldn't be an issue, they would just help me out.

So I went in and talked to someone - not the guy the rententions guy talked to. I told him I was hoping for an alternative to another TP because of all the issues. He listened to my story patiently and told me they would work something out.

He started listing off phones.. first the Treo - I said I hated Palm OS and had problems with it in the past. Then he went on to the BBs, and I explained that I didn't want to pay for the BB data. He went on to the snap and I told him I didn't think it held a torch to the functionality and I wanted a touch screen. The guy looked around... sighed, and looked back at the computer. He finally said "I can replace it with a TP2."

He seemed aware that people had been doing this a lot, so I didn't want to sound like an ******* taking advantage of the system. So I went on to say "isn't that what I have" - Now, I am a very tech and mobile savvy person, but he didn't know that. He continued to explain that it was the new generation with better hardware. I mentioned that I was reluctant because of the issues I had had with this one and he assured me i wouldn't have a problem. I asked to see a demo and he said he didn't have any and went on to show me pics online. I figured I had toyed with him for long enough and said "sign me up."

This was on Thursday and I didn't want to tell my story right away in case it wasn't legit. But I went in today and got my brand new, in box, TP2!

Keep in mind that I was not rude or forceful to anyone, and I was genuinely appreciative because I have had true issues with a ton of the TPs.

I hope this info helps someone having a hard time running their life from a non-funtioning phone.
