The fact is, we DID pay for this phone, and some of us paid substantial amounts. Now if some person comes in with no replacements on their account, and no reproducible errors, I can see you being skeptical--but in general, if the phone has any errors, you are obligated to replace it with a different phone, and a TP2 is one of the potential choices. The device is, by design, defective--Sprint has told you to PROACTIVELY try to replace these phones. Chances are, that guy's phone is going to go bad. (Every TP I've had thus far has.) I've worked in customer service and I know the loudest customers are often the ones with the least ground to stand on. But this isn't an area where you should be practicing discretion. Sprint's made it clear that the TP1 is a faulty device. They've done the math and determined they lose LESS money by replacing the phone with a different model than losing the man-hours and phone-time in trying to service existing devices. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
i paid full price for this phone. now on 3rd TP in last 4 months. but the most recent one has behaved for 40 days. Its acting up again.. frozen keyboard and heat issues. i dont have insurance. What are my options? I dont want to pay for another phone.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Thanks to this thread, I am going to get Tp 2 in 2 days. One thing I would like to advice is go to store and they can take care, you might have to goto couple stores but don't give up . Be polite and tell the issue have with Touch pro. I almost gave up but finally I got it.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
OK a few things. One the leaked memo NEVER said anything about replacing it with a TP2. So I do not know where people got that. the memo said the list has been increased to models that customers have switched to from the TP. So some people need to go read it again. And the unit has to not be repairable. If the tech can repair it then it has to be repaired. If the TP2 is not in stock and there are other models in the same priority then a new one can not be ordered. 3, this memo is 3 weeks old so how do we know that a new memo did not go out after someone leaked the original memo. This wouldnt be this hard if people didnt go into a store acting like they knew more than the employee. This info I got from a DM so I think it would be accurate
Oh and whomever said it was a recall, they are wrong. Sprint and HTC never publicly said anything was wrong. Only reason we know of this was due to a leaked memo. If it were a recall they would need to inform everyone and have the device replaced whether it was defective or not. the memo only stated this model is the highest exchange rate so they want to get people out of this model. Nothing about it being defective. |

I have a mogul and it is still running but having problems. It has been dropped a few times lately so I suspect some of the problems are related to that. Are they are going to replace moguls with TP2 also? I went to the insurance site to try and get a replacement and it said that my phone would be replaced with another mogul. I called the insurance people and they said that was the case and it would be the same phone. I called a local Sprint store and asked the same question and was told that it would be replaced with another mogul and not a TP2. Short of the hollering, cussing and acting crazy is there a way to get mogul to TP2? On a separate note: I told the insurance people that my phone was still functional but was having problems. They said to do the replacement and send the phone in and that it would not be questioned. My concern is if I do that and it gets to them working are they going to charge me full price. Guess I am too honest for my own good. I just do not feel right doing the insurance thing with the phone still working but on the other hand I do want to know what my options are in case it does die soon (it is limping along these days) |

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
I had a touch pro that had the loose screen issue as far as the sliding part. I took it in to my local sprint service store, and they said it was natural for the phone and even if they fixed it or replaced the screen it would do it again. They did nothing for me and I pay the $7 a month.
I went ahead and wrote sprint a nice little email :-) although they did not replace my phone with a TP2 they let me get a new phone at the online discounted cost (After rebates) so I bought the TP2 and they let me keep my TP1 :-) I am happy now I really like the TP2. My sprint store is not replacing the TP1 with TP2 as of right now. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Please, for those that have replied to my post, re-read it. This is a business. I will do my job and do what Sprint tells me but Sprint has not said replace the TP1 with the TP2. If they did I would. End of story.
For the person who said something about the unemployment line think, I may be there along with many others from Sprint that have been laid off due to cut backs because of people like you scamming the system. Thanks. |

Sprint is a business and so is fill in competitor's name here. |

buck, since you were talking directly at me, if cracked chrome, non blank functional screen, and separated slider accounts for SCAMMING, then you will be in the unemployment line for ineptitude. Not to mention the type of employee I would actively seek out store and regional management about if I am treated like a criminal or scammer for spending 300.00 every 18-24months and having 4 lines and full TEP with your company. Get it right man, and Rippa, ditto on your logic. Can we get on topic please? Sorry for taking the bait again folks, I will let Buck fade into the foggy yellow ether. |

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Shatner I think it is you who needs to get it right. I clearly said in my first post that those that have actually had issues with the original tp1 should be taken care of, but instead of reading and comprehending you have become disproportionately angry. My issue is with the scammers who are learning to do it here. The fact that you have gotten so mad lets me know exactly which category you fall in.
I get what you are saying about customer service but this thread doesn't seem to be about that, it seems to be about spreading misinformation which makes the people, both customers and those who work for sprint to have a hard time. Like I already stated, if you have had legit issues repeatedly there is a system in place to help you, if the TP2 is what Sprint tells me to give you, that is what you will get, but I have yet to see that come up as a replacement option. That isn't to say it hasn't but I have yet to see it personally. I apologize to the OP for getting off topic, I respect this forum and the right to create any thread you want. I deal with nitwits day in and day out who try to get over on Sprint every chance they get and a thread teaching them how just kind of irked me. |

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!

Taken from the text of the message: "The HTC Touch Pro has the highest service level of any phone - more than double that of any other Sprint smart device - and is driving the majority of multiple exchange and service-related escalations. Because of this high service level, we are encouraging ASCs to *proactively* move Touch Pro customers to a different replacement model when an exchange is required." It then goes on to list the appropriate phones for exchange and EXPLICITLY states that a customer does NOT need to meet the minimum service level (3 exchanges) to be eligible for this. What YOU are doing is stepping in and determining who is or isn't worthy of a swap. And it's not your place. Sprint has given you a list of phones to offer, and told you to swap the Touch Pro out for ANY of these. If someone asks for the TP2, that's the end of the story, assuming their phone warrants an exchange to begin with. Now you have discretion INSOFAR as whether or not someone's phone warrants that exchange, but frankly, Sprint is telling you to err on the side of swapping. You may think you're helping the company by weeding out freeloaders, but the fact is, if they have a legitimate issue (or are whiny babies) they WILL call Sprint or try again, and take up more company resources, until they either a.) get their phone replaced, or b.) get rejected enough times to stop, and *in the process* consume more company resources than a new phone would have cost Sprint in the first place. Now if the phone's defection rate was low enough that this didn't happen a lot, Sprint probably wouldn't care. But it's clearly not an ok phone, so while you dispense moral justice, your company suffers by either lost customers or increased service time. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Ok, you just posted a quote from me saying if sprint tells me to replace it with a tp2 i would. They haven't yet.
I am sorry but your link is broken and I can't respond to it but I can tell you I get internal email from Sprint which I comply with, not what has been "leaked" out to the internet. I will continue to weed out the seekers, it is part of my job. Please read and comprehend before you post. |

Your job is NOT to weed out the seekers--you are a repair technician, not an auditor. Your job is to examine a phone, determine if it is defective, and if it is, repair/replace it. Sprint has issued official notice that in the case of the TP, they want you to follow specific steps. You do not get to choose which phone to replace it with in this scenario; that is the customer's choice. You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding about what your role is in your company, and as a result, you're probably costing them money in your misguided efforts to enforce what you think your duty is. I would suggest you take another look at your job description and the memo I attached before you ask me to "read and comprehend." |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Ok, where to start... You once again have not read what I posted because no where in any post have I stated my actual job title, and no, I am not a technician, for all you know I could be an auditor.
Also, I will read my Sprint documents from their secure server and not randomly off the internet from sites like slickdeals.net. You should try to understand that not everything on the internet is true, but seeing as how you seem to believe your own misconceptions of the truth I doubt you will be able to comprehend this. (did putting it in bold help you?) I am done with this, I have made the statement I wanted to and don't wish to derail this thread any further. |

Here are the facts: Sprint issued this directive. You clearly haven't read it. End of story. You're not coming off as smart or competent here, chief--you just look like a bitter technician (which you claim you're not, but I sincerely doubt is the case, since you'd have no reason to "examine" a phone coming in for repair unless you were) who's just not very good at debating. Better luck next time. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Fun thread, especially the last 10 posts. Now only if we could get level 4 replacements back in stock so I can resolve my legitimate issue.
BTW, I have to add this comment. As Dane Cook says- there are Sprint employees who, if they worked at Burger King, would actually think that they are the Burger King. |

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
I'm not getting into a pissing contest, or a war of words. My post a few pages back was just to let it be know that begging is pathetic.
If you've had 3 or 4 or 7 TPs, then it wasn't directed toward you.... To a certain extent. The fact of the matter is.... Sprint at one time did offer TP2s for TPs... But not anymore. It was a company mistake that now is being taken advantage of. If you're one of the people on the first couple of pages then you prolly made the cut. TP2 was only on the list for 2 days... if that long. The arguement about the car not turning right or whatnot isn't a valid arguement... No one in any of these post have said I can't make a telephone call with my telephone. Which is basically what that arguement implies ... I cant drive with my vehicle. The real arguement when putting it in car terms would be... "I can't use my turn signal, or my heater is stuck on hot... Can I have a 2010 please?" Another brilliant reply was that these companies don't make any money off the devices just the service plans.... Well thats true, but did you consider when you OFFICIALLY upgrade you're also placed back into commitment? By these exchanges there are no commitments, which bottomline means no guaranteed monthly payments from that customer. Which could eventually put Buck in the unemployment line. So by upgrading with no commitment, what does the company gain from that? Maybe I'm just old school or something? Maybe I was raised right... Maybe I just believe you get what you work for, or what you pay for... But I do believe in karma, aand that life's a b.itc.h depending on how u treat her. Who know what issues these TP2s have. They've only been out extensively for a little over 1 month... Which I believe is how long everyone's TP lasted. Time reveals everything, and everything good comes to those who wait... The rest just answer to fate. |

Picked up my TP2 last nite. The took in my original TP and gave me the TP2 w/ the battery and charger. Was expecting it to come w/ accessories (case, headphones, etc) like the TP1 did but oh well... I got a TP2 :D
Its whatever. You realize that it's just an "improved" TP1 and the excitement dies down. I miss the d-pad on the TP1... wish they included it on this. But it's still a great phone. |

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
this thread started by the op is true. the key is IF the sprint store has any tp2s, they are to upgrade you per the conversation i just had with advanced tech support. he said because of so many problems, you can choose the bb curve, treo pro, palm pro, bb tour or if any are in stock, the tp2. just don't go to the angry techs' store from a few posts back!

Yeah, I really liked my TP1. It was a great phone... when it worked, lol. The improvements on the TP2 are really nice; the interface is smoother, neat new features (like linking facebook profiles w/ contacts), larger screen, etc. It's a sweet phone, but I'm having issues with the Quick Menu and a few other minor things. Despite all that, it's still a nice phone. You'll enjoy it. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Well hello guys i have a pretty good story to share, before reading this i would think that some kind of scheme to get the TP2 can be done..after reading this i was sure i can def make it happen so i can my tp replaced with tp2. Last week i called sprint represantative and told them about the defected phone and how its my 3rd one and they kept asking me to go to a repair center (this is NYC btw, BROOKLYN), every represantive i spoke to told me the same thing. And so i go to a repair center and the guy acted like he had no idea until i pulled out the sheets of paper to prove it, even so he tried to scheme me himself and told me that their out of it and the warehouse inventory is out of stock as well and couldnt choose the option, i literally almost got physical with him to a point where i had to control myself cause i know he was bsing freaking 4 eyes.. There were notes on my account that i should get the TP2, if u do the same thing MAKE SURE U GET NOTES ON UR ACCOUNT! anyway that same day after i get out of the store without any luck i said wth let me call sprint again and so i did, complained more and more and they still couldnt do anything, ask for tech support and everything. They said they couldnt order me one they dont have authority to, before getting off the phone with tech support i asked for account setting technician, this is where u get the most results btw guys so listen up. I dont have a contract with sprint anymore because i been a costumer for 8 years, i get a lady at account settings and i tell her straight up I WANT TO CANCEL MY SPRINT. She said y is that sir and bla bla and i explained it to her about the notes about the sheets about this ahole trying to duck and dodge me and said i cant deal with anymore, she put me on hold...5 min later she said Mr.%%$# your tp2 has been ordered by a manager at KINGS PLAZA MALL in BROOKLYN NY are u near there i said yes maam, she said ur phone is going to be there on monday and i called on thursday. This monday i went there and i got the TP2 with no problems at alllll, they didnt even check my TP they just confiscated it. Happy story to a happy costumer, wish you all the same luck.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
took my sisters tp in to the repair store today, due to the keyboard not working and overheating issues and instead of them replacing the phone with an other tp the tech actually replaced the keyboard and the battery on the phone.

Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Some may disagree with me, but I wanna say this....
If you don't have the $7 insurance/total equipment protection, you shouldn't expect to get a TP2 replacement, nor should you be harassing Sprint employees about getting one (I wouldn't even do that even though I do have total equip protection). We all bought a TP1 and had 30 days to decide whether or not we liked it. Within that time you could've switched the phone for a different model. After that time period, it's only their obligation to replace the phone or switch it (as long ad you're in warranty or have TEP) with whatever choice they offer you . I'm not trying to sound "uppity", but I'm surprised/disturbed/disgusted by some of the reactions I've seen here. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
I want to say something for whatever its worth. I came to sprint from Nextel. My first sprint phone was the PCC6700 I bought 3 on a new contract. That phone was garbage even after all the mods I was able to do to it from this site. They broke and broke and broke! I got reconditioned ones, one after another. It was so bad that sprint who I really have nothing to complain about gave me 3 Moguls when they came out and a life time credit of $10 on each of my phone lines for as long as I am with them. The Mogul's had some issues and I did have to get reconditioned phones but in no way the same amount as the PCC6700. When the Touch Pro came out and the moguls broke I complained and again as each phone broke sprint changed them out with the Touch Pro. Now we have 3 touch pros and I work the phone hard, drop it all the time do Roms left and right! The phone has worked without a problem at all! I have been using build OS so I really have not been on the site much. I was or am shocked as to how many of you guys have had problems with the touch Pro. I have been luckily then since we have 3 and since they came out they have never broken or had any problems at all! Thats why after going thru 3 generations of phones for free I had no problem paying for the touch pro2 with a new 2 year contract at the 349 price. My wife and daughter are so in love with the touch pro they don't want the touch pro2. So when they do break, if they do then we will either get a reconditioned one. Or the touch pro2 only because there are no touch pros around reconditioned or if they chose get the touch pro2 at what ever price discount or not.
I am like you guys I want the newest and best product out if I need it or not. But that is my weakness. I work hard, play hard and get what I want if I can afford it. To me taking advantage of a loop hole or not is not cool. You bought what you bought! If it breaks and there is no more of what you bought and the replacement is the new best thing, that is one thing. But to break something, modify it in some way to get over on a tech or whatever you do. To me is not cool. Why? Well in my short 40 years on this earth there is one thing I have learned that was real and I mean real hard to learn. That is. YOU GET WHAT YOU PUT OUT! If you do crap! Your going to get crap back! Might sound stupid but I am sure the people that have learned this lesson will agree with me. The others will not understand what I am saying but will, when they are taught the lesson. If you don't understand me then understand this. When some stupid or bad thing happens in your life and you just don't understand why me? Remember the crap you did for a stupid Touch Pro2 that in 8 months will be replaced with some other dumb phone. Play your position in life! We all want the Rolls Royce, I do at least. But I have a Chrysler 300. Its what I can afford lol. Off the soap box and sorry if I offended anyone did not mean to. |

What's really irking me about a lot of the people on this thread is that they seem to think there's this giant conspiracy for people without legitimate problems to score a TP2 because they want a new phone. But in the past four pages or so, since I started posting, everyone trying to get a new phone has REAL PROBLEMS with their TPs. This kind of stuff is what qualifies for class action lawsuits, people--Sprint sold us a defective product. Just because you lucked out does NOT mean that the product is any less defective. But I paid good money for my phone, it is still under warranty, and by their own admission Sprint acknowledges that if I get my TP replaced, there's a good chance it will crap out on me again. I don't want to get caught in this cycle of return/repair until my warranty runs out; if the product is defective then I, as a paying customer, deserve a replacement of equal or lesser value. The TP2 is just that. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
NewOne757... I agree, touchscreen failure on a touchscreen device warrants a replacement.
A replacement of a touchscreen. Stuge123... If your windshiled breaks you get a new windshield, not a new car. Thats the point I'm trying to make. And calling these people who are prolly kids and ultimately are prolly only working there on pay that makes ends meet, harrassing them and giving them a hard time over a memo that is 20 days old is asanine... and you're a jerk if you do it. Obviously, maybe even a *special* jerk if you believe that in a company the size of Sprint things wont change at the drop of a hat. I mean is this the first memo in the history of Sprint? What about the ones that didn't get leaked? Hell Sprint has the best plans in the business BAR NONE! and you cheat them out of commitments so that you can save a few hundred bucks that you will more than likely end up blowing on coffee or cigs or drugs, or hell maybe just blow it trying to get blown. (by a woman for the slow kids) Now we wonder why the economy is jacked up... We wonder why everything is over prized... yet we cheat the companies who are here... And whether anyone admits it, it still only hurts us. Another poster hit the nail on the head. You get back what you put into it. |
Re: Sprint now replacing Touch Pro w/ Touch Pro 2!
Another thing. For the record.
I believe that if you went into the store, and you just told the guy that this is whats going on, and then he offered you a TP2, then I don't have a problem with that. Its the people who call and beg, harrass, believe they know more about the 20 day old memo than the guy who is lookin at the 1 hour memo.[-X |
