Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]
Yes they can be, BUT if the license is for Verizon's TP2 and not sprint, the question would be the legality of doing so. Aka lets say Verizon model came with free TomTom, would that let you copy TomTom to sprint version and use it legally. It is sad I know..

Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]
You rang? Well, this is interesting news. But honestly I will bet it wont happen. And if it does it will be similar to what HTC did to the tilt. Remember the tilt? People were angry spitting fire at HTC for cutting corners and cripplint the Tilt. Everyone who bought that device were furious because their old 6700 was 3 times faster. So when everyone went home and installed their apps and gps software like tomtom and Igo, the thing ran at about 3 fps. So people wondered if the device was broken or the software was imcompatible. Well.. after a bit of research from the guys at XDa it was concluded that the Tilt had absolutely no acceleration and the gps software had nothing wrong buy rather the device was the problem. So soon afterwards www.htcclassaction.org was created to inform everyone on this matter. Believe it or not, the nagging and crying and complaining and mass emailing HTC got from their consumers actually paid off. HTC later released a special driver for ONLY the Kaiser (tilt). A qvt drivers. Apparently it fixed the tilt a bit but it was not fully unlocked with proper drivers. It was like a cheap driver that only optimized the software rendering a bit more to satisfy and keep the negativity off their backs. Members at XDA tried to port over the drivers to all MSM72XX cpu devices but had little success with it. So now we are 3 generations ahead of time and we still have this exact same issue with the brand new released Pro2. So my suspicions are that they will do the exact same deal when WM 6.5 gets officially released. They will include a driver that will NOT fully use the Imigeon Graphics chip but rather just optimize the software rendering a bit more. This is my HONEST opinion. For those who hate to hear the truth and are contempt with their unaccelerated devices (Pro2), do me a favor and pic up a old Treo Pro running on WM 6.1. And you will see what true hardware acceleration looks like. Put it this way, WM 6.1 is like a whole new Beast the renders very smooth. Tom tom and Igo run at 30fps and above. So next time you all launch tomtom and see the thing crawl at 3 fps, just take a second and look at it. ANd ask yourself.. "Why does it move like a old Voodoo graphics card?

Man that was informative and made me sad at the same time, hah. Is there any current WM phone that has full GPU acceleration?

Treo Pro. Its a older device but if you saw how it ran, you would be in a fire rage towards HTC! But only problem with that phone is the screen is square. I hate square screens.

Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]
Tons, just not on Verizon/CDMA. A lot of GSM WinMo phones (as in, Europe only) have full hardware acceleration. Pretty much anything thats not HTC has full hardware acceleration. I'm thinking about returning my TP2...2 year contract extension isn't worth it on a rumor that there will be full hardware acceleration in the future. Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT device, but I'm more of a casual/multimedia user, I like to play games and watch movies at a rate my eyes can't keep up.

Oh... and another thing. I think the OP is correct thou. Have you all tried out all the custom roms with WM 6.5? If you have you will notice that It does in fact render a bit smoother. Look at file explorer under WM 6.5 You can actually flick it and it does scroll smoother. Unlike WM5 and 6 and 6.1, that thing would jump instead of scroll smoothly. SO if this is the acceleration they are talking about.. then thats all its going to be. ANd no , tomtom and Igo still run at 3fps. Sadly.
I can clearly see how someone who has never experienced WM 6.5 can confuse the acceleration with the optimized exsperience they get from going from wm6.1 to 6.5. You can see that it does scroll smoother overall the whoe WM6.5 OS. But once you launch your applications, 3d/2d acceleration is NULL. Last edited by Exil3d; 10-01-2009 at 01:25 PM. |
