I was using it but removed it after it introduced some instability to the device. I am back to Skyfire for flash |

Re: So what's the bottom line with Flash and TP2?
Thanks for the feedback.
I was just looking through those pages this morning, and it looks like what big shortcoming is that at least some (all?) who install this lose the functionality of the Zoom Bar. That's a biggie for me, so I'm just going to sit this one out for the time being. It looks like it's on his list of things to fix, if I understand what he means on his first page in that thread where he refers to "UPCOMING." Will also check out Skyfire. Any problems with it? |

Re: So what's the bottom line with Flash and TP2?
A few things:
1.) If it's youtube, the HTC Youtube app is the way to go. It is capable of playing Youtube HD videos that are at 720p and scaling them correctly for the screen. The end result is fast loading, absolutely perfect skip free buttery frame rates, and near photo realistic quality. It's amazing. Unfortunately, it is only for YouTube ![]() 2.) The flash fix for Opera, in my reading, didn't look like it was achieving good frame rates. I haven't tried it yet, are ya'll finding good frame rates with it? I wasn't a fan that it was a hack as it seemed to have some quirks. 3.) CorePlayer can handle some forms of streaming and YouTube, but it's quality and frame rate isn't that good. Plus I hate CorePlayer's owning company, they can diaf. 4.) As for Skyfire, I'm a member of their moderator team and alpha testing group for WinMo, been using it back to closed beta .6. So I'm quite familiar with it. It is probably still the all around the best way to do flash, java, and other "higher level" web functions on a mobile device since it uses cloud rendering. Unfortunately, again there are limitations. Right now at anything above QVGA aka 320x240 resolutions, the output is scaled or pixel doubled. That means text is "blurred" and video quality is halved, etc. That is simply due to the way Skyfire works - the data is streamed to your phone, to stream VGA or above resolution would greatly increase the data streamed and the infrastructure needed to handle it. When Skyfire was created and designed, VGA devices weren't even around yet for the public. They are working towards a solution, but I do not have a ETA. Also, due to the extreme popularity of the now open and public version, the network is getting bogged down and frame rates/thruput etc isn't as good as it used to be (i've seen skyfire at it's best, on a closed Alpha with less then 100 people on a dedicated server... man it flew!! I miss those days). They are continuously improving infrastructure so again I'm sure this will be improved as time goes on. They are also focusing their attention on things like the home page more... in an attempt to generate more revenue etc... However, even given all this, it is still the fastest web browser out there for a mobile device, and still supports the most things on a web as close to a PC as you can be in a mobile web browser. Unfortunately it doesn't yet support our zoom bar, or gyro flipping screen out of the box (though it will work fine with the Change Screen program) As far as hulu and skyfire, that is no fault of Skyfire. Hulu decided one day to BAN proxy usage of their services. This means the PS3 and other proxy streaming devices can't access it either. It was a huge let down to users of Skyfire like me. Skyfire has attempted to get Hulu to repeal this policy to no avail ![]() 5.) Opera 9.5 for the TP2 has really impressed me. The integration with the zoom bar, the resizing/reformatting of text at various zoom levels, the text entry support, the general polish of the browser, etc, really are good even compared to skyfire. That wasn't the case when I tried Opera 9 on my Titan, but with the extra ram, resolution, and processing power of the TP2, it really shines. In fact, I find I use it almost exclusively now... It's just a shame it can't handle flash out of the box. So in the end, I'm still looking for a ideal solution for flash too... even a stand alone app like the HTC Youtube one which works SO amazing!

Re: So what's the bottom line with Flash and TP2?
Aren't we expecting Adobe Flash 10 mobile this month, after WinMo 6.5 release?
Protonus, I thought I recognized you from the Skyfire Alpha group. Those were the days, indeed.

I'm going to try out Skyfire this week-end, and will see. I now have and use Sprite Backup, so I'll do that first, just in case there are unanticipated problems. But from what I've read so far, it seems that whatever its limitations might be, Skyfire seems to be 'well-behaved'. |

I still see it all as a Fine Line between Opera and IE, so I decided to make a video for you about what a Fine Line it is:
