Configuring wireless breaks data connection?

I am absolutely LOVING my TP2 and mess with it constantly. The most recent thing I've been trying to do is set up the wireless to work with my home internet. I don't use DHCP so I have to manually configure the wireless adapter (Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter).
My problem is, once I configure the wireless adapter I can't use Opera browser without it. If I turn data connection off and wireless on, everything works great. If I turn wireless off and data connection on, only the weather app works. Everything else acts like there is no connection. The only way I can fix it is to remove the configuration from the wireless connection.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
