Re: Configuring wireless breaks data connection?

I'm not sure what router/WAP you're using. On my Linksys WRT54G you can setup MAC address filtering to only allow certain devices to connect to the WIFI. I ended up doing that, since I too use static IP's on my home network. Setup the MAC filtering and DHCP to only give out 1 IP address.

Unfortunately my setup is a bit more complex than that. If I setup DHCP to be enabled, I would need to lease out 17 IP's. Several for my web servers, workstations and xbox. Additionally XBOX does not support DHCP in a friendly manner because you have to set the xbox in the DMZ.
Reconfiguring applications and services to use a different IP when it's lease expires or an ip changes can be a PITA.
Bottom line is the Mogul supported static IP's, my touch pro even did what I needed it to. This Touch Pro2 should as well. I'm using a WRT54G as well.
Essentially it's useless as a WiFi device for me. A very major component for me.

Re: Configuring wireless breaks data connection?

Unfortunately, it's the WM build that HTC is using. This topic, surprisingly, has been increasingly coming up. I've had this issue like a year go on my Diamond and nobody seemed to bother. lol anyway I did stumble across this program WifiProfiles.

What it allows you to do is create profiles for wifi networks with static ip addresses, then you can create a profile for evdo to revert all changes. Sad to say this is the only workaround so far.

is there a way to keep the wireless connected even when the phone is not actively being used?

Yes, you need a registry editor. Navigate to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}

Change the dword values to 1. Wait a few minutes for the settings to stick, soft reset.
