Re: anyone noticed that at stock u only have 188mb of memory?

FYI.. The phone has 288 MB of RAM internally. 32 MB is reserved for what I believe to video RAM, or in HTC speak "ISM". That leaves 256 MB for the system to use. Windows Mobile blocks off a portion as a buffer for the camera (Not sure how much on here, on the Mogul it was ~6 MB) and other system stuff (such as the pagepool), plus room for its operating files. What's left over is what you can access to run programs in.

And as I said when I had the Mogul - Damn, Windows Mobile is a memory hog!

I wouldn't expect a mobile OS to take up quite so much RAM. Half of what it currently takes, sure.

I would venture it's static pagepool settings. I remember when i set a 0 dynamic page pool on my diamond, memory went up to 215MB up from like 190+ Or something.

Re: anyone noticed that at stock u only have 188mb of memory?

Are you referring to "program memory"? When I go to my hardware information screen is says the same is 256MB... 183.50MB for programs, 72.50MB for the OS = 256MB

Re: anyone noticed that at stock u only have 188mb of memory?

The actual full quote is:

"So that's a 1 MB address space. And in that original design I took the upper 340k and decided that a certain amount should be for video memory, a certain amount for the ROM and I/O, and that left 640k for general purpose memory. And that leads to today's situation where people talk about the 640k memory barrier; the limit of how much memory you can put to these machines. I have to say that in 1981, making those decisions, I felt like I was providing enough freedom for 10 years. That is, a move from 64k to 640k felt like something that would last a great deal of time. Well, it didn't - it took about only 6 years before people started to see that as a real problem."

VERY different than "640K ought to be enough for anybody." Clearly says indicates that he thought he was providing enough address space for 10 years of growth, not that no one would ever need more. Gates himself says he's never uttered that phrase.
