Re: Skype

I have it installed... it works great over wifi, and I've had mixed results over Evdo/X1... I've been a longtime user of skype so I already have the accounts etc. The prices are legit, there's nothing "too good to be true" about Skype.

I downloaded the Windows Mobile version directly off Skype... it worked fine for me (Telus TP2).

Only problems I had was that Skype doesn't route the in-call audio to the ear-piece... puts it out the back speaker which makes it hard to carry a private conversation.

To get around that problem I found a program called "AudioRoute" which allows you to redirect sound from one speaker to the other... works great.

AudioRoute is freeware and it can be found here: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware

Re: Skype

FYI, Fring works very well too for Skype.

In fact I like it better because it is much lighter to use on the device and is not nearly as huge in size.

www.fring.com

free too

Re: Skype

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get Fring to work properly... It's always one issue or another.

I'm still optimistic about fring... but skype seems to work better for me. Redirecting the audio on fring doesn't appear to work, neither does the "use earpiece" option. Which I don't particularly care for since I'm generally amongst people and would like to carry a semi-private conversation without carrying around ear buds/BT headset.

That said, if you don't redirect the audio to the ear piece you need to use ear buds/BT Headset otherwise there's going to be some nasty feedback.

Dunno, being using Fring for the last few days with no problems.

Audio Router (post #3) works fine with Fring--just not the "Fring version" that is under the menu, that doesn't work.

Regarding AudioRoute - how is this run and configured? Obviously, I want the phone to treat the audio normally as it does now, with the exception of when I might want to use Skype.

Is it something that has to run all the time, or would I just run it when I want to use Skype (which won't be often), and then close it down afterwards?

Any unwelcome side-effects or glitches in other TP2 functions when it's installed and run?

Thanks!

Re: Skype

Just installed AudioRoute on my TP2 and it works great.. installed without any problem and works like a charm. From the website:
"The first icon routes the audio to the earpiece speaker.
The second blue icon, can be used to route the audio to the backspeaker.
The orange icon, routes the audio to the speakerphone, while in a phone call."

I can't even use it on the Bluetooth headset.
If anybody know how to transfer your audio "using audio route" to your bluetooth device.. please let me know.

In my recent experience, bluetooth doesn't work well with Skype on the TP2. While you can send the audio to your bluetooth headset, the audio is "broken-up" and delayed. In this situation, wired is really the best way to go. Probably just too much work for the poor ARM processor (a guess, not a "known fact").

I've tried it with both bluetooth and wired, as well as just using the speaker. Speaker gives an "echo" on the other end. Bluetooth "breaks-up" on my end (but works fine when not using Skype), and wired is perfect.
