Re: Skype
well theres no such thing as an unlimited plan, theres atleast that 5gb soft cap.... but VOIP is also a big no no in all our carriers TOS... not that tons of things we do isnt a violation of TOS lol
just wanted to throw it out there so u remeber to check your usages from tiem to time... tahts all.... and GV is a very good option if your just gonna use skype to reduce your plan minutes.... more reliable since an internet connection isnt needed... technically with GV you can have free incoming and outgoing minutes if you really wanted to do it like that

Re: Skype
This is probably a dumb question, but could I make calls to regular phones in the US from another country using Skype, or do Skype international calls have to originate in the US? (I'm not talking about skype-to-skype.)
I'm traveling to Peru later this month, and am researching options to call the US. I can unlock my TP2, get a local SIM card in Peru, although I don't know what the per minute rate would be to call the US. Or if there is WiFi at the hotel, then could I use Skype to cal the US? $10.00 Skype Credit would give me 125 minutes of calling time to the US at Skype's rate of around $.08/minute. Thanks!

But I'm wanting to know what happens if I want to call from Peru to a regular landline or cell phone line in the U.S. I understand I'll need Skype credit for that, but those rates are quite reasonable. I just need to know if a Skype international call can be initiated from outside the U.S. and made to a line in the U.S. I know it works from the U.S. out, but not certain about initiating from outside the U.S. to a landline or cell phone line in the U.S. |

I actually use Skype to forward ALL my US cell phone calls to my European number. You get a Skype-in number for $12, the set the skype client to wait like 2 seconds then forward to your European number. If you have the $2.95 plan, the only thing you have to pay for is the rate from Skype to your mobile. I just talk for a minute and call them back with my Skype client on the desktop or now TP2 ![]() ![]() Last edited by isdnmatt; 10-07-2009 at 12:00 AM. |

Re: Skype
Appreciate the added info. This might help out in Peru. I don't travel much internationally (a time or two a year), and don't know how often I'll have WiFi access, but knowing I can do this with my TP2 will give me some low-cost options.
I may go ahead and install the client on my TP2, sign up for that $2.95 plan at least short-term, and try it out and see how well it works. Thanks! |

Is it something that has to run all the time, or would I just run it when I want to use Skype (which won't be often), and then close it down afterwards? Any unwelcome side-effects or glitches in other TP2 functions when it's installed and run? Thanks! |

Re: Skype
AudioRoute adds a "S" box to your taskbar. Then you just touch the S and select earpiece or speakerphone. It does automatically boot on a soft-reset, so I just close it if I'm not going to be using Skype. I haven't had time to find where its being booted from, but I'm sure it's not a difficult fix.
Otherwise, the phone works normally when the program isn't running. |
