Re: Touch Pro 2 dead or stuck pixel POLL

So my Verizon store didn't have any in stock, and nothing around me did... so I called them, and they're sending me a brand new replacement, hopefully this one works well.

The only thing that annoys me is that they had to charge me up front for the cost of the replacement...

Re: Touch Pro 2 dead or stuck pixel POLL

Wow after reading this thread I have some observations and comments to make. First of all there needs to be a distinction made between pixel issues with the CMOS sensor in the camera and those that are present on the LCD screen. CMOS issues will present themselves as a white or colored dot only in images taken usually when looking at a black or dark area of the image. LCD screen pixel issues are seen on the display no matter what content is being displayed.

I started my TP2 journey with the T-Mobile TP2. Frankly I really wanted the phone and it came out first. I went through 7 T-Mobile TP2's before ultimately giving up. Here is the rundown of each in purchased/exchanged order:

1. Stuck pixel on the screen on the lower left, fairly noticeable without micro-analyzing the screen. Didn't know about CMOS issues at this point so not a factor in this exchange.

2. Several stuck pixels on the screen and discovered my first CMOS pixel by accident. Was using the camera to take a black image and saw what I thought was an LCD stuck pixel. But I moved the image and the pixel moved, that proved it was the CMOS and not the LCD.

3. Phones 3-7 never left the T-Mobile store. I was tired of running back and forth to the store so I had the rep open the box and let me check it in store. Every time there were CMOS defects on each phone. Some also had LCD pixel issues but once I saw the CMOS issues I stopped analyzing and moved on.

Once I heard the Sprint version was coming out soon I decided to wait and see if it would work on my SERO plan and hopefully I would have better luck with the pixel issues. Well thankfully SERO worked so I ordered a TP2 from telesales and received it next day. At first I thought the screen looked LCD pixel defect free. Because the TP2's screen is very high resolution the pixels are small and harder to see than on other displays. Ultimately after I thoroughly checked it I found 10 stuck pixels, I did not check the CMOS issues at all on this one. I returned this TP2 to a local store, which BTW the credit still hasn't hit my account almost 2 weeks later. I ordered another through telesales and again received it quickly, this time in 2 days. Immediately upon powering it up I noticed a stuck pixel in the top right corner of the display. When the TP2 boots up the screen brightness is set to maximum and the screen is almost totally black so any pixel defects will be more obvious than in normal use. Once the device was booted up I set the screen brightness to be managed automatically by Windows Mobile. Once this was done the pixel was barely visible, to be fair it is a complete non-issue when the phone is in normal use. I can see it just barely on a completely black screen but when is the phone really ever displaying that? At one point I noticed a much more dim stuck pixel at the top center of the display, that one has since disappeared. Then I did the unthinkable, I thoroughly checked the LCD and CMOS for any other issues. This is a bad idea because it just shows you defects that you would never really see in normal use, but I couldn't withstand the temptation. To my surprise there were no other pixel issues at all.

So now I am presented with a phone that has one stuck pixel in a relatively unnoticeable location and no CMOS issues. At this point that seems to be a pretty good hand of cards to be dealt and I am tempted to leave well enough alone.

Thanks for reading my novel about TP2 pixel issues. They are real and very annoying, BTW on several previous Touch Diamonds and Touch Pros I only can remember one of those having a single stuck pixel. Clearly the TP2 screen is not being manufactured with nearly the same commitment to quality control that the TP1 and Diamond screen was. One last thing, Sprint makes the return and exchange process so miserable that I really don't want to deal with it again. That combined with my current phone situation has me close to giving up and accepting my current TP2.

Huh? The TP1 was $299 with a 2 yr contract, and many of us got it the first week at Best Buy with a 20% off coupon for $239. No mail-in rebates.

TP2 is $349 AFTER a $100 MIR. How much did you pay for the TP1?

Re: Touch Pro 2 dead or stuck pixel POLL

You can change my vote to a "No". I created 5 pictures of solid colors (black, white, blue, green, red) that I could view full screen with HTC Album to see if there really were any dead/stuck pixels. The reason I did this was due to the post above talking about bad pixels from the camera showing up that could make one think they have bad pixels on the screen. After looking at all of the images, I cannot find any bad pixels on my screen, so I'm guessing that the spots I saw on the screen were due to the camera in the phone, not the screen itself. If anyone else would like to try the same thing, maybe we can find out if it's an issue with the screen, the camera, or both. I've attached a zip file with the 5 images at 480x800 resolution so they fill the screen when opened if anyone else wants to try as well.

Verizon was selling the TP1 for $400 late last year. I paid $250 after corporate discount. I paid $150 for my TP2.

Looks like they spent extra money on the keyboards and saved on the screens. Essentially fixing one issue & creating another.

@docprego nice read, thanks for sharing.

Wrong. I sent two TP1s back for stuck pixels. I've also had dead/stuck pixels on a ton of devices over the years from many many manufacturers. I understand its frustrating as I always send them back and have to wait but taking that one issue and using it to dissuade potential buyers from purchasing an amazing phone isn't right. Especially when you have no intention of buying the phone yourself. You remind me of a jealous child who is desperate for attention. You make me sick.

BTW, Touch pro 2... Defect free.

Holy crap...$400 for a gimped version of the phone? That's ridiculous.

Interesting find. I'm anxious to see the results from this. I'm wondering if people are seeing their stuck pixels outside of the camera application, because it doesn't sound like they are.

Re: Touch Pro 2 dead or stuck pixel POLL

Before I send my phone back this weekend, I'm going to try to take a good picture of the problem since I think it's a good example. What's the best way to go about this? I'm thinking of using my Canon S3 IS on a tripod, but would a flatbed scanner work? lol
