now this is how its supposed to be....We all have them days.

On another note, the touch pro 2s battery smashes the tp1s. Lol

Thanks guys for self correcting the attitudes in this thread....I'm depositing $250 PPCGeeks Cash into your accounts right now...don't spend it all in one place.

How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

So far for me, the battery life is WORSE than Touch Pro (1). And why not? The battery capacities are about the same, and TP2 has more pixels on the screen. Even in good coverage areas, I see that the idle drain rate is faster than my TP1 and Diamond. Clearly, there is a slight break in period for the battery, but I don't think it will get much better.

////

I have applied a few changes to the registry to see if they help:

1) Disabled the accelerometer. I don't care for the screen to automatically rotate (or auto-mute or auto-speaker phone). I use a manual app to rotate the screen. In any event, the screen rotates when I open the hardware keyboard. There are some that say that this will make no difference in battery life, but my unscientific tests have shown some savings.

HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/GSensor/Dll=Gsensor.dll, add a "1" in front of the file name, so that it reads "1Gsensor.dll". The driver won't load on next reboot.

-Polling int 200, you can increase this value if you don't want to disable the sensor completely.

2) This one is commonly known and used since (at least) the TP1 and Diamond days. Some people swear by it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\BatteryPollInte rval=1388 (number is in hex, translates to 5000 in decimal)

Change it to 4E20 (20000 in decimal)

3) Again, don't know if this helps, but did it anyway:

HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/ErrorReporting/PollInterval
Default: 180000
New: 1800000 (I just added a "0")

////

I also used Advanced Configuration Tool to enable power management for a host of interfaces/functions:

http://www.touchxperience.com/en/adv...downloads.html

---

I'd like to hear your experiences, and any tips you have to increase battery life. I also use software to monitor CPU load, so I can see if there is a process using excessive cycles and thereby eating up the battery life.

Dotfred's Task Manager is one of the best. Has a lot of tools and utilities, including registry editor and a panel that works like Windows Task Manager, where it shows you CPU utilization:

http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm

---

If you don't use TF3D, I highly recommend Homescreen ++ UI. It can display CPU utilization, a host of task manager tools, as well as battery % on the task bar:

http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_batteryst..._ext_im_cs.htm

I am off on a business trip for a few days. I hope this post turns into a useful battery-saving thread. Cheers.

EDIT:

Someone please try this registry change and report back. It is not power related, but I am curious if it works on TP2.

Background: With the HTC text input (phone pad, compact qwerty and qwerty) on Diamond and TP1, I didn't like how long I had to "press and hold" to get the special character or number to show up.

On Diamond and TP1, I found that by changing this value: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\PressAndHoldTimer to a lower value reduces the press and hold time. I was using 250 (ms, I presume).

The TP2 has no such entry. I added the DWORD value, and I am now using 25. I am not sure if it makes a difference. I am curious about your experience.

I also found on the TP2, under HKLM\System\IME\SymbolSelector\SYMSelectorTerminat eTimeout. The current value is 60000. I wonder what this value governs. I will try changing this later..

Re: How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

Are you sure? The battery performance on my tp2 with no tweaks is light years ahead of my tp1 and my diamond with every tweak imaginable.

Edit: To add, I have had 4 different touch pro's and battery performance has been consistent between all of them

i see a lower discharge rate on the Tp2 than i do on the diamond when there sitting idle.

139mA for the TP2 and 175mA for my diamond via battery monitor.

Re: How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

Thanks for your input.

@themuffinman: I presume your tweaked TP1 also included other apps and such. Do you think that "everything" that was done to TP1 had an adverse effect on the battery. Do you have any data between unmodified TP1 and 2? I wonder why my experience is so different...

@2k4mach: My idle discharge rate for all 3 devices are less than 100 mA (using Homescreen ++ UI). Sometimes I wonder if software are calculating the drain based upon observable factors and therefore have sharp differences in reported value.

I will continue to keep notes on my experience with the TP2 and report back.

Edit: What is your real-world run time with TP2 compared to TP1/Diamond?

Re: How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

usually pull mine off charger 9am
im a fairly light user when im at work. my diamond when i would plug it in @11pm would be somewhere between 15 and 25%
the tp2 so far ive been running around 40 -50% when i plug it in. although i do wonder about the 1% battery driver on the tp2 giving false readings but it hasnt died on me.

Re: How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

I didn't have the TP or Diamond, but my experience with the TP2 has been fantastic compared to my old 800w.

I pull my off the charger at 6:30a.m. and by 11:00p.m. I'm still between 35 to 45%.

I talk on the phone about 20 minutes total, text all day, internet usage about 40 minutes, and set appointments and tasks all day. And since its new, I turn the screen on about every 30 minutes just to look at this device and play around...

I don't have any tweeks for the battery install either.

I'm extremely satisfied compared to my old phone dying before the end of the day without supplemental charging.

Re: How's your battery life so far? Let's discuss ways to prolong battery life...

Since a lot of people never read the user guide, I'll add these practical tips directly from the guide:

Quote:
Battery Saving Tips:

How long your battery power lasts depends on the battery type and how you use your device. Try the following to help conserve battery life:

* When the device is not in use, press the Power button to switch off the display.

* Tap Start > Settings > All Settings. On the System tab, tap Power > Advanced tab of the Power settings screen. Here, you can specify the time before your device automatically turns off the display and backlight to
conserve battery power. For optimum conservation, specify three minutes or less.

* Tap Start > Settings > All Settings. On the System tab, tap Power > Backlight tab, clear the Auto adjust backlight check box, and manually adjust the backlight brightness settings.

* Use the AC phone charger to plug your device into an external power outlet whenever possible, especially when using a modem or other peripherals.

* Turn Bluetooth off when you are not using it. Make your device visible to other devices only when you are trying to establish a Bluetooth partnership.

* Turn Wi-Fi off when you are not using it.

* Lower the volume.

* Close battery-intensive programs such as the camera when you are done using them. Make sure the programs are ended and are not continuously running in the background.
