Its not a fear of overheating but the fact that it is overheating...standard batteries have problems charging in really hot temperature..my mogul for example starts blinking with orange light to show that it is overheating. The biggest Ive noticed was when using wifi and mostly during summer..it gets REALLY HOT! From what I read somewhere this issue was fixed in TP2..but I would prefer if some people can actually give live accounts of whether this was fixed or not.

Re: Touch Pro 2 charging issues?

Since now T-Mobile people have it can anyone give a conclusive response...can the TP2 handle the summer heat while sharing the internet via WIFI? or does it overheat just like its predecessors?

Exclamation Conditioning your batteries for max life

I've noticed a couple of people on here asking about this, which is expected, since several people are just now getting their phones, and understandably want to take care of them (and their batteries) as best they can.

I got a super extended battery for my TP in late August, and asked this very question when I was trying to figure out how to best care for it. (It wasn't cheap.)

The basic answer, from several reputable sites in a Google search (One big one being Battery University) is below. Note that the linked page makes reference to Li-Ion batteries 'with charge indication' - This means batteries with buttons on them that you can press to get a general reading on their charge level, something that does not apply to our phones.

If it makes you feel better, fully charge the battery before you do anything to discharge it. Not only does this put your mind at ease, it gives you more time to play around with the phone the first time you turn it on.

After that, keep the battery as fully charged as possible. Li-Ion batteries will manage their own charge currents (how much power the charger gives them) when full, so there is no danger of over-charging. However, Li-Ions do not react well to being discharged. The closer to dead they are, the worse it is. If the cell voltage falls below a certain point (Which the phone stops well short of, but it's still possible in theory..) then the battery will not be able to be charged with a standard charger. A specialized charger may be able to recover it, but this is not guaranteed. Batteries in that state sometimes short circuit/heat up dangerously.

Re: Conditioning your batteries for max life

Im sorry but You should read a little more before you make a statement. You are saying the opposite of what the arcticle you linked stated. Nowhere in the arcticle does it say that chart is for Lion batteries with charge indication. It lists lithium ion, and contradicts your statement.

*Directly from the arcticle you linked:

-Li-ion comes partially charged. You can use the battery right away and charge it when needed.

- Li-ion is forgiving to partial and full charge. No priming is needed when new.
Fully charge and discharge battery. Repeat when readings get inaccurate.

-it is better to recharge more often; avoid frequent full discharges.

- on batteries with a fuel gauge, allow a full discharge once a month to enable reset

-Does not matter. Charging in stages is acceptable. Full charge termination occurs by reading the voltage level and charge current. Charging a full battery is safe and does not cause harm.

-It does not matter. The charger automatically cuts the charge current when the battery is full. A laptop may be connected to the AC when not in use.
- little heating is generated during charge. A large laptop battery may get lukewarm. Do not allow the battery to heat during charge.

You should read closer before bashing my thread. Note that I said "If it makes you feel better, fully charge the battery before you do anything to discharge it." Key words "If it makes you feel better", in other words, it's not strictly necessary, but if you want to do it for peace of mind (and a longer runtime for when you play with phone for the first time), that's fine.

As for your quote "Fully charge and discharge battery. Repeat when readings get inaccurate", that only applies to battery with charge indicators, that is, batteries with buttons on them that you can press which usually light up 3 or 5 LEDs to give a very general idea of how charged the battery is. I made sure to cover this in my original post. Our phone batteries do not do this. The purpose of the full discharge in this statement serves only to "reset" the fuel gauge. It does no good in our phones, and as the article addresses, full discharges are not recommended for Li-Ion batteries.

As for the rest you quoted, I do not dispute it, and it was a direct copy (or nearly so) from the linked article. I'm not sure why you quoted it.

Putting your entire post in bold and slamming my thread, and linking to your own version in larger print is just childish. That's akin to shouting; can you not discuss things without shouting?

Agreed. What's wrong with you hypnotic? There is nothing wrong with his post and his intentions are very clear.

Your bold text and condescending demeanor is completely inappropriate.

No, this doesnt just apply to batteries with charge indicators. Eveything in my last post was directly from the Lion section from the arcticle you linked..

You know what, nevermind, If you cant read, Im not gonna try to explain it to you. Everything is there right in the arcticle you linked, and more in my thread.

This will be my last post. I wont make this a shouting match. Facts are Facts, no need to argue, have a great day sir.
